Shoreline gets a helping hand A section of Port Perry lakefront, known as the “Millennium Trail” had new life breathed into it last month when a dozen or more volunteers converged on the popular lakeshore trail to help restore damage caused by ice last winter. The shoreline erosion project, headed by the Scugog Lake Stewards spent the best part of a rainy day, repairing section of the shoreline with a product called MacMat N10. This product, donated by Maccaferri Canada Ltd., provides a permanent struc- ture under the soil, which will be planted with native grasses and flowers. It is hoped this innovative product will help protect the shoreline by directing the lake’s ice to slide up the embankment, rather than into it. The Scugog Lake Stewards continue to look for techniques lakefront homeowners can use ,that are more lake friendly than ledgerock or concrete walls. Hopefully, MacMat will be one of those successful techniques.
