Inductees to be honoured October 25 Four individuals and two teams will be honoured for accomplishments in their chosen sport later this fall, by the Township of Scugog and the Scugog Sports Hall of Fame Committee. This is the sixth year for this eagerly anticipated sporting event and induct- ees into the “Hall of Fame” will include residents who have excelled in hockey, archery, softball and harness racing. The induction ceremony will take place Thursday, October 25 at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre Hall. Doors will open to the public at 6 p.m. with light refreshments being available. The official induction ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. The Hall of Fame Committee is honoured and privileged to announce the fol- lowing “2012 Inductees” to the Scugog Sports Hall of Fame: Builder — Alfred Huggins; Individual - Hockey — John Scott; Individual - Archery - Terry McMillen; Individual — Softball - William Harper; Team - 1968 Port Perry Ballard Lumber Juvenile ‘C’ All Ontario Champions (softball); Team — Harness Racing —- Glenn Van Camp and San Pail. The Scugog Sports Hall of Fame Committee was established in 2007 to recognize Scugog’s sporting history through the induction of local athletes, teams, and builders into the “Scugog Sports Hall of Fame”. These individuals and teams have reached outstanding levels of athletic accomplishments at the regional, provincial, national or international level. Among the inductees honoured in the past have been Olympic skaters Anna Forder and Richard Stevens, NHL goalie John Ross Roach, basketball pro Jim Zoet and many other local sports legends. An invitation is extended to the entire community to join in as Scugog’s 2012 athletic inductees “come home” to be celebrated and congratulated for their outstanding achievements. Included in the evening program will be a special of the 40th anni ry of the Port Perry MoJacks Hockey Club, and the 50th anniversary of the Port Perry Minor Softball Association. The public is also invited to visit the “Sports Hall of Fame,” in the Scugog Shores Heritage Centre and Archives, on the 2nd floor of the Scugog Commu- nity Recreation Centre. The “Sports Hall of Fame” will be open at 6 p.m. for the public to “step into the past” and get a glimpse of the community's sporting history.
