King Haakon returns Continued from page 43 company who decided not to invest in the operation. It was time for a change and Eric’s skill in finance and management made him very marketable. He immediately gained employment with American Home, the largest insurance company in the world and worked his way to becoming vice president of fi- nance, a post from which he retired more than twenty years ago. My conversation with Eric lasted several hours and I was mesmerized by his attention to detail. So many of our veterans have so many incredible stories to tell, and the opportunity to capture small glimpses of these people's lives is very rewarding. Thank you, Eric and every one who served in the military, for keeping us safe in a country where free- dom and opportunity are considered our normal way of life. Veterans over the coming days will reflect on their comrades both living and passed and the experiences that formed both themselves and this country. Each year on November 11th, surviving veterans, sol- diers, airmen, sailors and members of this country’s youth such as the scout and cadet programs will stand on parade and observe a moment of silence to recognize the sacrifices our service men and women have made to our country and for peace around the world. Whether you are ‘for’ or ‘against’ involvement any- where in the world, I would encourage the community as a whole to pause for the morning on November 11th and join these veterans in downtown Port Perry to show your appreciation for their sacrifices. No matter if the 11th falls on a Sunday, or any day of the week, any business that can close their door, for even an hour, to make a presence at the Remembrance Day ‘Remembering the Flags of our Heroes’ nN 216 Queen St., Port Perry Ss QWwacc 905-985-2171 ~ uneral <4 HO Peace» Comfort +Family Myles G.
