The alert observer can tell the maker of the prints and perhaps decipher the tale in the tracks. Experienced naturalists will lead small groups into parts of the wetland that are nearly impossible to access in the summer. While snow may seem to hide life in the marsh, in fact, it allows us to more easily track wildlife, and with the fallen leaves, much that is hidden in the summer is clear to see. Participants will explore the trails, look for animal signs, find out where insects go, and learn trees by their bark and buds. If the weather co-operates, this will be an opportunity to try snowshoeing. It is truly remarkable how this simple footwear spreads out the weight of a person allowing them to stay on top of deep snow. With snowshoes on your feet, you can go almost anywhere! Sure beats plodding along knee deep through the fluffy white stuff. The Winter Snowshoe Adventure is for all ages. It begins at the Nonquon Pheasant Pen property at 9:30 a.m. and runs until 11:30 a.m. To get there, follow Old Simcoe Street about 5 km north of Reach Road in Port Perry. Registration is requested.
