Mlaiill Dear Focus... House Tour a fanatastic success Dear Editor We would like to thank Focus on Scugog for all of your support for the Port Perry Prince Albert House Tour. I am sure that your articles and photos were a big contributor to our sell out. This year, I am happy to report that all 500 tickets were sold out three days before the tour! We raised al- most $15,000 for four amazing local charities: Big Broth- er Big Sister North Durham, Community Care Durham, Joanne’s House, and the YWCA Durham’s Second Stage Housing for Women. Through these charities we can make a positive impact on children, at-risk youth and women, and the elderly within our community. As well as helping the charities, the Port Perry Prince Albert House Tour generates business, support and awareness of our wonderful community by bri ing hundreds of people to Port Perry and Prince Albert on the day. I would like to extend my thanks and sincere ap- preciation to all who helped with and supported this year’s house tour: the members of the Committee; the house captains; all of the volunteers who worked in the houses, in the church sanctuary and at the café in the auditorium, and throughout the town and countryside setting up signs; all of the people who donated baked goods and food items and for the display in the church; and the church staff for their preparations, support, and encouragement. A special thank-you to: the home-owners for gener- ously opening their homes to the visitors; the florists for the beautiful floral displays in the houses and our sponsors for their generous contributions to the tour. Thank you and well done! Mark your calendars for September 20th for House Tour 2014. Peter Hvidsten 2 FOCUS - NOVEMBER 2013 Community gift giving time again Dear Editor It's time once again to start thinking about the local “Community Gift Giving” program in partnership with the Community Nursing Home. The aim of the program, with the public’s support, is to provide each resident of Community Nursing Home with a gift this Christmas. We invite you to join us in this wonderful program to aid in ensuring that each resident has a gift to open this festive season. Each gift will be memorable and will be wrapped in a beautiful Christmas bag with a card attached from the donor. The cost of each gift is $20. Cheques can be made out to “Community Gift Giv- ing Program”. A receipt will be issued that can be used for advertising and promotion. All gifts will be deliv- ered prior to Christmas to the residents of the nursing home.
