Continued from page 11 at the small confectionary where we would buy our post lunch Russian chocolate. Our choice of topics, very bizarre requests, and as the days wore on we managed to get a smile then full laugh- ter rehearsing our Russian. There are so many more stories to tell - but it’s time to wrap this up... so here goes! Finally the torch came to Sochi - the official start of the Olympic Games. Opening night I found myself at Can- ada House for the start of the Opening Ceremonies. The place was jam packed with excited Canadians eagerly awaiting the arrival of our athletes into Fisht Stadium. I was there to assist with a couple of live interviews. After finding everything going well with our trans- mission equipment, I departed to our master control area at the International Broadcast Centre. I wanted to watch the lighting of the cauldron and share a special moment with my colleagues, the group of us who had been there since the beginning of January. On my walk back to the IBC I watched the Russians, old and young, hurriedly walking to the Medal Plaza to witness the lighting of the cauldron. The joy and excite- ment on their faces was beautiful to watch as they scur- ried to get there as not to be late. It was special to me as well, as my Olympic Experi- ence continued. I was eager to get back behind a mixing console and bring the sounds of the Men’s Hockey back ada. Writing this as the Games are still on was a mixture of emotions for me, on my experiences in Russia for two months. There are many stories still to be told by Canada and our athletes. I will leave Russia with many special memories. The challenging Olympics to be sure, but mostly the warmth and friendliness of the people here and I am left to wonder what the legacy of these games will be, for the people of Adler and Sochi. My colleagues and I will always have a special bond on what we achieved here technically, when we meet further down the road that little laugh we share about this time will be warm and genuine.
