Continued from page 22 The air and the water are still regulated at a comfortable 90 degrees F, The hours of operation have had to change recently, Julie explained, because of the admission of three -year -olds to early learning programs in schools, and the full day kinder- garten program. Now, some of the weekday time slots are not full, and Julie has had to open for 12 hours each on Satur- day and Sunday for the convenience of her young swimmers. In the past, Swim Kids of Scugog was traditionally closed on Sundays. As well as its specialty, swimming lessons for children, Ju- lie’s pool also offers Aquafit, exercise classes to ease arthritis, and pool rentals for special events. At age 55, Julie is looking forward to many more years of serving the community of Scugog and area. The delight of the children when they receive their badges, and the appreci- ation shown by their parents, make it all worthwhile. Moms and dads often tell Julie that mastering swimming skills gives their kids more confidence in other areas of their lives. “They feel like they have really accomplished something,” says Julie. And it’s true. I can personally vouch for this. Our own children were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to learn how to swim with the gentle guidance of Julie Goodwin and her staff, in the fun-filled atmosphere of the original Swim Kids pool. Scugog’s ‘Treasure Hunt’ recycles unwanted items The Township of Scugog will hold its 7th an- nual Scugog Treasure Hunt this month. Simply place any unwanted items, (bicycles, clothing, furniture, garden tools, hardware, sporting goods and tools.), on your boulevard (front yard) on Saturday, October 25. Throughout the day, other residents will have the opportu- nity to travel around the township looking for amazing finds at no cost. This recycling event is a great opportunity to raise awareness of Waste Reduction Week. This year’s motto is Too Good to Waste. The Scugog Treasure Hunt is a perfect exam- ple of the motto, as unwanted items too good to be disposed of in a landfill can find a new home. Residents will be required to have all un- claimed items removed from the street by 4 p.m. Saturday, October 25. For more information about the Scugog Trea- contact ann Cornish at 905-985-7346 ext 112. All participants will receive a sign indicating their involvment in the sale to be displayed on the boulevard.
