Unlike most communities, Scu- gog Township can boast two excel- lent fall fairs each year. The first takes place in Blackstock on August 27, and this is followed by the Port Perry Fair, held September 3 to 5. Like all Ontario fall fairs, each provides entertainment for all ages, competitions, livestock shows, good. food and a chance to meet up with old friends and new. BLACKSTOCK FAIR This year marks the 146th annual Blackstock Fair and it gets underway again this year with a parade to the fairgrounds beginning at 10:30 a.m. ce inside, patrons will be treated to all the sights, sounds and smells that make rural fairs just a great place to visit. New to the fair this year is “YouthLand” which is being billed as a place for “tweens to teens”. Here the kids can enjoy rock wall climb- ing, texting contests and lots of other youth oriented activities. Kids continue to be a big part of the Blackstock Fair, with a pedal tractor pull, frog jumping contest, jumping castle, an obstaacle course and much more. Of course an agricultural fair would not be complete without its animals and animal competitions. The Demolition Derby is popular in both Blackstock and Port Perry. As in past years, the fair will feature livestock and horse competitions, Jawn tractor and ATV pulls and a variety of other events. Throughout the afternoon there will be plenty of entertainment including local singing talent, Paul Wasson, Outback Cloggers, D.J. and Katie Grove. And one of the highlights of the fair is always the Demo Derby, which will be held Saturday night begin- ning at 7 p.m. Prior to the derby, from 6-7:30 p.m.,, early arrivers will be enter- tained by a couple of local musical groups, Lowe Brothers and Clever Cats, in front of the grandstand. PORT PERRY FAIR The Port Perry Fair gets under- way slowly on Saturday when the midway opens up at 2 p.m. This is followed a few hours later with the official opening ceremonies in front of the grandstand. And the first eve- ning is capped off with the exciting and popular demolition derby. Things really get into full swing on Sunday.
