Kudos to Port Perry Medical Staff Dear Editor After a recent surgery, I realize we need to celebrate what excellent care our community is receiving at Port Perry Hospital. Thave spent the last year driving to Toronto for medical appointments with my husband at Princess M et. largar Weare blessed to have talented and dedicated MD’s, Surgeons and nursing staff at both our hospital and diinic. They have helped us through many difficult days and knowing they were close by, helped relieve my stress. We have the best of both worlds. We have the personal touch, by knowing our surgical nurse by name or, like me, have your family doctor assist a great surgeon and anaesthetist during a procedure. But best of all, we have wonderful medical teams who have chosen to be in our little town and not Toronto. Bev Hopkins, Port Perry G Mons extend their gratitude Dear Editor We never cease to be amazed by the generosity and support of this community. The G Moms want to send out another huge thank you for the fabulous Yard Sale results. Not only did we get quality donations which netted wonderful freewill donations but we also received very g for the donated articles. Did you see how many times we had to say ‘donated’? Picture this!!! On the afternoon of Friday, June 5th people arrive with articles they have saved for us in order to help our Grannies and Orphans in Africa. They know 90% of our monies go directly to the projects and that we are empowering and enabling them. The articles are then sorted as best we can and then Saturday morning the enthusiastic and generous crowds arrive. Organization mixed with chaos prevail for the day and by 4 pm. the Scout Hall is back to normal. ‘To get to the point? We had a profit of $8630.70. Have you any idea how many kids can now go to school and how many grannies can start income generating projects? And a special thanks to the person who donated a pot Summer walking at the arena a go Dear Editor Iread Wendy Clark’s ‘letter to the editor’ in the June Focus and have sent her the following message. Thank you for letting us know of your concern. I would like to let you know that I spoke to the manager at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre and asked why the walking program ends in April and if it could be year round. I was told that the walking group ends their informal walking group in April so that they can walk outdoors. (walking group has been around for some time now). However, that being said the recreation centre would not deny any resident that would like to walk safely inside during the summer. Keep in mind that the summer is when the arena can do maintenance on pad #2 which has the built in walking loop, so there will be times when ice pad #2 is not available to walk in, at such time you could walk in the lobby area that goes from the front doors to the back by pad #2. Summer is also Kids Camp time, so you would encounter lots of kids and may have to maneuver around them or pause if they are crossing your path, but I think this should not be a problem. Please note the doors to the recreation centre will be open Monday to Friday with the exception of holidays 7:30 a.m. — 6: ss from 7:30 am. ~ 6:00 pm Councillor Jennifer Back Take time to reflect Dear Editor On June 9th the elementary schools of Scugog participated in the 2nd annual Reflection Park Day. | Schools sent student top on help in the flower bed and to discuss the impact “| positive citizenship. Our committee would like to thank the Township of Scugog for continuing to collaborate with us to ensure Reflection Park is inviting and aesthetically pleasing to the public. We would also like to thank Josh Morrison, a grade 8 student from Uxbridge, for sharing his journey to raise $100,000 for Habitat for Humanity to help build a house in Oshawa. It was powerful to hear from a young person about his positive contribution to his community. Finally, thank you to the following businesses for their generous donations which helped make our day a success: Hank’s Pastries and Breakfast Emporium, pate Century Home and Garden Greenhouses, Otter th John’s Garden (Uxbridge), and Greenbank with an old envelope in it which had obviously been there for many years. We discovered it contained $220 so we set out to find the owners and with much diligence we did!!! The money was promptly returned to the G Moms as a donation. Things just can’t get any better than that ! Only in Port Perry! Again....... We send out a most sincere thank you to all who were involved in this event. The grateful G Moms 2 FOCUS - JULY 2015 Cac Centre. We hope the public will take time to visit Reflection Park which is located across from Foodland in downtown Port Perry, read the messages embedded in the flower bed, and enjoy the beautiful stone mosaic built by the students of Scugog. Reflection Park was built for you to enjoy? The Reflection Park Committee More lett page 55
