PALE VWELVE THE OSHAWA DAILY TIMES, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21, 1926 Henry Ford's Displeases Junior Chicago, Dec. 21. -- Boys and girls who have been taught since their nursery days to save their pennies will not listen to Henry Ford's advice discouraging thrift in youth, Russell Johnson, 13-year- old president of the Gary Wheaton Junior Bank, 'at Wheaton, Refs here, said in an interview Monday. Russel attributes his own success to his ability to save, he explain. ed to the United Press, in terming the motor magnate's recent state- ment "a bad move in the public © eye," "What made Henry Ford one of . the biggest and richest amen in the world?" Russel asked "Spmeone saved the money that he borrowed to get his start, of course, Now he wants to tell other boys not to save, Why, just take my own case, If I hadn't listened to my father and mother, I wouldn't be presi- dent of the Gary Wheaton Junior Bank to-day, You know the direc- tors of the big bank chose me as president of the junior bank be cause I had the largest savings ac- . + Advice to Boys ; ank Head count. And now the others are en~ vious of me." Russell disclosed that he had sent Ford a telegram as one big man to another, expressing his views on the important problem, "I hope you didn't mean what the papers printed in an interview with you Thursday," the wire read. "We have formed our junior bank to teach boys and girls to save for useful purposes, How could you have started without some one's savings to start on?" Wheaton's young financier sald he was particularly displeased with Ford because he felt his statements would have a depressing effect on money conditions in the bank which Johnson is head, "Here we were just going along fine," Russell commented. "There has been quite a bit of rivalry among the boys and girls in Whea- ton and our bank has made great progress, We've only been going now about six weeks and we plann- ed to have 300 young stockholders in a short time," BATHTUBS AND VANITY BOXED BEFORE CHRIST Ancient Greek City Had Them Even as in Modern Days New York, N.Y,, December 21-- There were bathtubs, vanity box- es in the Greek city of Olynthus in the fourth century B, C, Their discovery was described recently to the newly formed Brooklyn Chap- ter of the Archaeological Institute of America by Dr, David Moore Robinson of Johns Hopkins Univer- pity, The ruins of the city of 50,000 FLOOR SANDING Hardwood floors, laid, sanded and ished complete--*'We know Ww oN: J. Th city was the leader of the Chaleidie League which precipitat- ed the JPelopennesian war, familiar to all students of ancient Greek history. It was destroyed in 348 B, C. by Philip of Macedon, father of Alexander the Greaf. Among the discoveries were grain vases 15 feet high, busts in marble and terra cotta, plates, bowls and other objects highly or- namented and a pair of bronze epaulets worn by some Greek Gen- eral. Today he found two gold nuggets in the gizzard of the bird and was informed that the small pieces of solid gold are worth sev- eral times what the goose cost. Mr. Campbell said the fowl came from Fergus or Arthur, and was included in his Christmas shipment. He was preparing it for delivery to a cus- tomer when the gold was found. -- PHONE 22 For Your Drug Needs THO MPSON'S 10 Simcoe St. 8.~We Deliver COAL-- Phone 193 W. J.
