Citizens Providence R.I, Jan, 11, -- The Providence Journal editorially deals at length with the Schneider Bill, now before Congress, which is designed to benefit persons de- sirfous of becoming citizens who entered the country prior tt 1921, Persons of Canadian birth, it is said, would be those chiefly to ben- efit by the measure. After pointing out that the gov- ernment kept mo record of persons entering the I'nited States prior to 1921, the editorial continues in part: : "Inasmuch as the Government itself has been at fault in not main- taining individual case recoras prior to 1921, therby making it dif- ficult for some meritorious per- sons to become citizens because they can not prove residence of suf- filent length here, it would seem that the Schneider mrcasure, de- serves passage. Injustice has been fhown, to cite a special case, per- sons who were brought here from Canada at a tender age by their parent. Such children have lived here continuously since their arri- val, have been educated in our pub- ie and private schools, and have become permanent members of the American population. But owing to the fact that they were mot Cana- dian-born, their parents having made the Dominion only a tempor- ary abode, they can not return to childhood scenes to Canada for a visit without subjecting themselves to the provisions of the quota law for foreign countries when they at- tempt to return. In other words, to all intents and purposes their travelling is virtually restricted to the United States. "Inasmuch, therefore, as the bill does not make acquisition of Amer- ican citizenship any easier except in the one respect of not being com- pelled to prove the length of resi- dence here -- excepting of course those who have arrived since 1921 --but does remove some possible chances for doing injustice to worthy candidates for citizenship, it ought to be favorably acted up- on by congress at this session." TRANSFER OF GAME FISH West Sutton, Mass., Jan. 11.-- Perhaps the greatest tramsfers of live game fish ever undertaken is being successfully accomplished here by state fish and game authorities. The scene is an artific- fal pond two and a half miles long and 190 acres in area which have been drained to the original Sucker Brook which ran through the val- ley. Countless thousands of picker- el, calico bass, perch and other varieties of fish gathered in the brook and they are being graded according to -size and species for and streams of the state. The pond has been closed to fishing and used wholly as a breeding place and some of the fish had attained great size, pickerel reaching two feet in length. Some of the larger fish will be kept in the pond for breeding purposes. The pond is probably the only one in the state so well adapted to breeding purposes, as it can eas- ily be drained and flooded again. The land now covered by the pond was once the site of cranberss bogs an seven small ponds with four mills. When the water was drawn off an old cemetery was re- vealed, some of the stones datin: St. 'Phone 18927. 141) back distribution throughout the ponds | WOULD LIKE TO.
