Plans For Flight Across At lantic By The R-100 Almost Completed London, Jan. 23.--The giant gir- ship R-100--Britain's challenge to the Graf Zeppelin--is nearing com- pletion, and plans for a flight to the United States with 100 passen- gers aboard have been made, it was learned. The trans-Atlantic flight will be made probably this year, after test flights in Europe during the spring months, It was learned that the R-100 Is merely a "test ship," and if the flights prove a success, the Airship Guarantee Company is planning a craft twice the capacity of the new airship. Additional financial sup- port would be necessary, however, before the next craft could be con- structed, it was said. Many British experts are of the opinion that the R-100 will prove the most successful type of modern aircraft. The Air Ministry aviation inten- tions were revealed, the first being special pontoons which have been constructed to enable the fast sup- er-marine racing seaplanes such as areused In the Schneider Cup races to be towed to smooth water, avold- ing previous difficulty in taking-off quickly in rough water. It was also learned that the Alr Ministry is testing 8 new Hawker- Armstrong Siddeley training air. plane, which is specifically design- ed to teach pilots to fly in fog or clouds. One feature of the new craft is a hood which can be drawn over the cockpit, enclosing the pilot and compelling him to fly "blind- folded by instruments only.
