(95-¢) ALLEGED HOLD-UP PROVIDES PUZZLE Toronto Police Still Without Report of Supposed Robbery Torcntc, Ap~il 23.---The Chinese puzzle of holdup, holdup, who was held up and by whom, is still en- gaging the attention of Etobicoke township police. Unlike the usual, sterotyped forms of the gangland pastime, the problem in the holdup east of the Humber in the early hours of Sunday morning is to find a victim. Rumors, which gave rise to the partially corroborated storys that gamblers returning from the avia- tion clup just outsidethe city limits east of the Humber were relieved of the 'house' roll amounting to something over $50,000, are now straightening themselves into two schools of thought. The first of these is that the "money man" was frisked for the roll which existed. The secwed is that the '"'money man' was frisked for a roll that did not exist. The latter theory is lent strength by the circumstances which imme- diately followed the holdup. Last night Chief Constable Sug- gett and Constable Taverner of the Etobicoke force were out investigat- ing. Just what lines these investi- gations would follow they did not say. Habitues of the club are of the opinion that the perpetrators of the holdup were men who had been inside and knew who was likely to have the house "roll." For this reason the identity of the bandits, it is said, will not remain a mys- tery to the victims for very long. City police still state that they have received no official announce- ment of the holdup. For this rea- son, they state, they are not taking any steps to effect an apprehension of suspects who might have per formed the matutinal pillaging. In the meantime, Burrows states that he has conferred with many of the club members and they state thatthey know nothing about any holdup. Ghostly Music Is Emitted From Inner Recesses of Cathedral Victoria, B.C., April 23.--Ghosts have been known to inhabit old churches and terrify passers-by with their unearthly noises, but the unexplainéd sounds that issue from this city's brand new cathedral are providing a different kind of mys- tery. The foundations of the new $3,~ 000,000 Victoria cathedral have been barely laid, yet every once in a while weird music is heard there, "It is really 'a most amazing phenomenon." states Rev. Cecil 8S. Quainton. "Sometimes it appears to be organ music. At other times the sound is distinctly that of a piano and the other day I heard a human voice singing." The dean is only one of many who have heard the mysterious cathedra! music. Especially -at night is the music audible, When it was first noticed people thought that a new organ was being tried out in the building, but enquires elicited the information that no steps had been so far taken to equip the cathedral with an organ. In fact, the building will not be far enough advanced for such equipment for many months, Close inspection failed to solve the mystery, but one theory that appears to have general acceptance is that the building has been act- ing as a reflector for a powerful radio set in the vicinity. It is also advanced that the copper roof of the cathedral may in some man- ner serve as a radio receiver.
