The "Wee Frees," concluding their general assembly sessions, decided to point out the great doctrinal differs ences between their church and the] : two others in answering the question why they did net join in the union. Rev. Dr. Montgomery Campbell in the Church of Scotland assembly said it was estimated that at least one mil- lion people in Scotland. were out of touch with the church. The home mission problem was one of the first and most important questions to be tackled after re-uniom was consums- mated, he urged. William Whitelaw, lay delegate, predicted there would be an onslaught on the slums by the next government, no matter what par- ty it was seletced from. The United Free church assembly dealt with the report on church life and social problems. Rev. John Maii- sie saying that nothing in S¢otland's social life was more costly than the slums. In many cases over-cfowding, with all its disastrous physical and moral results, was worse than before, he declared. a.
