BE HELD ON FRIDAY Frank Bruno Still Being - Held in Jail on Vag- * rancy Charge (By Stati Reporter) Whitby, June 26.--The inquest foto the death of the late Mrs, Frank Kobernick, of Oshawa, whose body was taken from the harbor at Port Whitby on Wednes- day night last, will be held next Friday afternoon {in the council chambers. The evidence of sev- eral witnesses will be heard and it is alleged that police fnvestiga- tions have revealed several facts which should throw further light on the fatality, Frank Bruno, Oshawa Ttallan, who is alleged to have been boat- ing with the woman when she was drowned, and who was himself rescued while hanging to the side of a sunken barge, is being held in the county jail on a nominal charge of vagrancy, Much of the evidence will be given by foreigners and the ser- vices of Polish and Italian inter- preters have been secured. Last Monday night members of the jury visited the harbor and examined the scene of the drowu- ing. CASE IN COURT Makes Application to Have Bridge Taken Over by the County (By Staff Reporter) Whitby, June 26.--An applica- tion to have the county assume a bridge at Whitevale is being made by Pickering township today be- for, His Honor Judge J. Ruddy in country court chambers, Pickering township claims that the bridge and its approaches measure over 300 feet and should therefore he included in the county system, The application is being opposed by the county and it is expected that the case will last all day, Several members of county council will at- tend the hearing including War- den Adam Dobson, Reeve John Ross, chairman of the roads and bridges committee and Reeve G. M, Forsyth, of Pickering township. G. D. Conant, of Oshawa, is acting for the county in conjunction with County Clerk A, E. The cost of building a modern bridge will probably be in excess of $10,- 000. A similar application made by Brock township, relating' to a bridge over the Beaver river, was dismissed by Judge Ruddy. FALSE PRETENCES GASE ADJOURNED Toronto Man Appeared in Court on Alleged Gold Sale Case (By Staff Reporter) Whitby, June 26--Isaac Sheull, Toronto Cattle dealer, who is charged with obtaining $500 by false pretenses from Anthony Rousseau, local hotel proprietor, appeared before Magis- trate J. Willis in police court here yesterday afternoon and was remand- ed until Tuesday, July 2. Bail was set at $10,000 but as Sheub could not furnish this amount, he will re- main in custody at the County jail. The accused man was arrested in Sturgeon Falls, last Sunday, upon warrant issued by Chief H. Gunson. He was brought back to town on Monday by Special Constable L. Consul Lithuanian Woman Fires Several Shots Before Arrested Berlin, June 2i.--M, Binet, French consul here, had a narrow escape from death today when an excited Lithuanian woman fired at him several times In the French consulate,' A porter caught the woman's arm and the shots went wild, lodg- ing in the ceiling of the room, he woman, who arrived at the 'consulate with her husband and child, asked M, Binet for money tn travel to Lithuania, saying that she had lost her leg in Paris after a bungled operation in a state hospital.
