Large Cameron rf Hooper (By Staff Reporter) Bowmanville, July 27.--~The last day of Chautauqua past with an- other large attendance, even great er than any of the previous days. The Cmautauqua this year has been attracting full houses for every performance and no wonder because every act has been of a high class, Yesterday afternoon perform- ance was in two parts. The first was a popular concert, put on by the Jackson Jubilee singers. These peple sang themselves ht 'into the hearts of Bowmanville people. Their appearance was so interest- ing in the afternoon that they at- tracted the majority of the after- roon's audience back in the even- ing as well as a great number of the friends who had been told so much about them, The second part of the afternoon's performance was a lecture on '""Canadianization," by Captain Stanley Nelson Dancey. The evening performance ' was put on entirely by the Jackson Jubilee singers, who staged a splendid concert, The first part was a plantation scene, in costume, and singing the old plantation songs. The second part was a col- lection of miscellaneous songs. Jub- ilee songs, plantation shouts, pop- ular songs and many others. This performance was indeed greatly en- joyed by local folks. As yesterday was the last day of Chautauqua, many local people will be looking forward to: next year's program, An interesting an- nouncement was made at yesterday afiernoon's performance. It was to hte effect that next year the season tickets for adults will be only $2.00 and not $2.75 as previously it has been. The children's tickets will also be much lower, POLICE DEPARTMENT REPAIRS COMPLETED (By Staff. Reporter) Bowmanville, July 27.--About 8 week ago the local police depart- ment had its front steps complete- ly overhauled. A whole new set of steps were put in place with the exception of the brickwork. Yes. terday morning painters went to work and painted the whole affair. The addition of the paint gives the police station a new" and import. ant air. The stairway of course was blocked for the day necessitating those who had business inside to go around and _ in through the Magistrate's office. The station to- day however is open for business and the detour is done away with.
