"TELEVISION EYE" WILL BROADCAST BATTLE FROM AFAR Several Great Powers Said to be Interested in In- vention London-- Modern warfare may be revolutionized by a remarkable invention which is shortly to un- dergo a series of tests at the hands of technical experts. Described as an "aerial television eye," it will enable airplanes in fligh tover enemy country to broad- cast back to television receiving stations at military headquarters living panoramas of all the coun- try over which it is flying, Enemy gun position, fortifica- tions, trenches, troops on the move and dispositions it is claimed, will be seen by the General Staff as clearly as if they were watching them with the naked eye. Several great powers are inter- ested in the development of the apparatus, which is the invention of C. Francis Jenkins, the well- known pioneer of television. Through use of his radio eye of the sky Mr Jenkins claims artillery officers will be able to sit before a screen and see exactly where their shells land. Staffs will no longer have to re- ly on the telephone and telegraph; they will be able to see for them- selves how a battery iz progressing and make their plans accordingly. An airplane speciially adapted to take the apparatus is now "under construction. When it is finished a number of practical teet will be made. The invention is operated by means of a photographic lens fo- cused on the ground through an opening in the bottom of the plane. At present its range is estimated to be ten miles, but it is hoped that this will be greatly extended in the near future. JELFS LEAVES POLICE COURT Veteran Hamilton Magis- trate's Retirement Regretted Hamilton, Ang. saved 20 children from following satisfaction I can have" Magistrate Jelfs stated in police court Wed nesday morning, his last day in office, when C. Big Brothers' Association, expres- sed the gratitude of that organiza- tion for Magistrate Jelfs' efforts, which were responsible for tha establishment of the juv file cours in Hamilton. In turn. the Magistrate said that the Big Brothers' and Big Sisters' Associations had been a powerful influence against crime. Mr. Bell read an address writ- ten by Thomas C. Haslett, K. ""Occasionallv differences of op- inion occurred between you and the members 4 the bar, but any irritation on their part was, I think softened by vour rugged honesty and the feeling that while, you may possibly he legally wrong, you were probahly morally right in vour conclusions," the address read in part. Ex-Magistrat eJelfs to-day when, after walking down . the steps of his throne for the last time, he gathered, all the graphs, keepsakes and trinkets which have adorned the Interior of his office for 36 years and held a pot latch with police officials and reporters, Mr, Jelfs took down a framed cartoon hearing the warning "Be- ware of Reporters," and presented it to one of the scribes. closed his book switched out the electric light, and composed himself for sleep. An hour or two later his valet was awakened by sounds coming from the basement. At once this trust- worthy man rushed into. his master's room and after a great deal of shak- ing succeeded in waking: him. "There's a burglar downstairs," he gasned nervously. "Sure?" replied the other.
