Strange Position Women in Quebec are in the strange position of having a vote in the Dominion elections and be- ing precluded from voting in the provincial and municipal elections. Dominion law gives the franchise to women on the same terms as men, the provinces control legislation on who shall be eligible to vote in elections under their jurisdiction. For some time, pro- gressive women in the province of Quebec, have been striving for the provincial franchise, but until the prseent have been put off with the reply that the mass of women no: only were notseager for the fran- chise, but actually were againsi its being extended to women. Resolutions from women's soci- etise have been passed from time to time, and delegations have waited upon the government urg- ing that women, in Quebee, be given the same freedom and rights ag women in the other provinces. The announcement that the gov- ernment has appointed a commis- sion learned in the law to investi- gate the advisability of amending the provincial law to give greater freedom to women in the state and in the professions, is hailed as an achievement.
