A further incentive to ihe young hockey players of Ontario" and Dur- ham Counties has been provided by the donation of a splendid silver trophy by Sheirff Paxton, of Oshawa, for annual competition between junior hockey teams of Ontario and Dur- ham counties. 'This trophy was handed over to its trustees at the banquet which was held on Thursday new Arena, the trustees being Ross McKinnon, W. A. Coad and Harry C. Lecky. The deed of gift by which trustees was read by W. M. Gilbert, manager of the Oshawa Arena, and reads as follows: Sheriff Paxton Trophy Deed of Gift Whereas I, John Franklin Paxton, Sheriff of the county of Ontario, of Dominion of Canada, have been con- nected with amateur sport al my life, with the typically Canadian sport of hockey for twenty years, have been an executive of the Ontario Hockey Association, and am desirious of pro- moting the best ideals of amateur sport as exemplified by the game of hockey ; And Whereas I am particularly in- terested in having these 'ideals per- petuated in the neighborhod of my birth, Port Pery, in the County of Ontario, of Whitby, where 1 have spent the greater part of my life, and of Oshawa, which has now grown to be the metropolis of teh district of the counties of Durham and Ontario, in the province of Ontario; And Whereas I believe in the mer- its of competitive sport and particu- larly of hockey, as a means of de- veloping not onyl the physical. but also the mental and moral qualities most desirable in youthful character; Therefore, I, John Franklin Pax- ton, do hereby donate unto my un- dermentioned trustees and their eld- est sons and garndsons respectively, flolowing them, or in the case of the death of such eldest son or grandson, or inability to function as trustee, to their next cldest sons and grandsons respectively in perpetuity, or in the case of the death or inability other- wise to function of such next eldest sons or grandsons, then to such other person or persons as the survivors of such trustees may elect, a trophy to be known as "SHERIFF.
