Mrs. McLaughlin wore a becomingly dra- ed frock of eggshell velvet. The Be was gay with flowers, and the orchids in the conservatories, which the guests admired, were a mass of bloom. On the blue brocade walls of the dining-room hung the famous pic- ture of Paul Peel's, "After the Bath," lately purchased by Mr. McLaughlin, The table with its Venetian lace cloth was most effective with its masses of mauve orchids and mauve glass.
