THE OSHAWA DAILY TIMES, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1930. WA SENIORS ELIMINATE BELLEVILLE FROM GROUP RACE ] Fool ; he | Contin took the puck right through S HAD 1071S ose pind put it in the net for' Oshawa's O.H. A. Bulletin | Additional playdowns have been 2 (ting sent off for slashing when he | lost his temper. Bond went all the third goal. Bill followed this by get- Schedule by Defeating ; Belleville Maroons 4-1 "Exit Belleville Maroons. On to the Playoffs. Before a crowd of nearly 2500 Roiay, excited hockey fans, the Osh- wa eniors blasted Belleville's hopes for a playoff berth, when they out- ed and outplayed the Maroons to close the schedule with a four to one nctory. 3 The game was oi the exciting kind and the fans were kept in an uproar practically all the time. Both teams were inclined to mix things up a bit and the players were quick to re- taliate if they thought they had been "ride." Except for a short while during the last period, then Dshawa had two men on the bench, Belleville never looked very danger- pus and the majority of their scoring threats comprised hon from outside the defence or from the boards. Con- trasted with this type of play, was Oshawa's scintillating combination work which enabled them to take the puck right in on Jeffery and give im no chance to save. Three of Dshawa's tallies came as the result of combined efforts. The two most - galuable men on the Oshawa team were the men who figured in these plays, Bond and Houck. Neither man scored a goal but both players were entirely unselfish and their clever passing resulted in three goals and on several other occasions, their efforts were foiled only by the spec- tacular work of Jeffery, in the nets for Belleville, The Oshawa wing men played good hockey, the work of Black and Gilfillan beirig especi- ally noticeable. Black and Doc worked hard and both had tough fick. Jeffery robbed Black of what ked two sure goals in the last riod, Gilfillan, the alternate left inger, was given a chance to get #1 the game more and he made good gse of his chance. He backchecked vell and was always dangerous on a fombination attack. He scored two Oshawa's goals, one on a pass m "Kip" and the other on a pass m Houck. Conlin and Lane both layed nice games but both seemed { their opponents. {about a minute left to play in a little too eager to mix things with One of the features of the game, was the clever net-minding exhibition given by the two goalies in the last period. Both teams drew plenty of penalties inthis period and as a re- sult the goalies were given plenty of work to do. Leveque and Jei- fery both turned in stellar perform- ances. Jeffery was outstanding. Time and time again, he was called upon to save when an Oshawa player went right in but he kept cool at all times and some of his saves were excep- tionally brilliant. R. Scott, and Hull also showed up well for the visitors. This win gives the Oshawa Seniors the Group leadership and eliminates Belleville from the race, The dates for the Group playoff games between Queens and Oshawa will be an- nounced as soon as they are known, The Game Soon after play opened Bond got chased for handing out the butt end. Leveque made a nice save when A, Weir went in close on a combination play. Immediately after Bond ¢ back Oshawa scored on a pretty com bination play. Conlin passed to Bond who in turn passed to Black. Art went right in and gave Jeffery no chance. Lane went right through on a lovely rush but he went too far and his shot missed the net. Houck and Gilfillan combined nicely to give Jeffery a scare. Gilfillan went right through and then missed the net. Conlin got chased for boarding Weir, Oshawa scored their second goal with the first period. The goal came as the result of another brilliant combina- tion play. Houck passed to Kipper who passed across to Gilfillan. Jim made no mistake with the shot and the score stood at two to nothing when the period ended. Second Period 1 Belleville started fast but failed to | get past the Oshawa defence. Lane | got chased for tripping and a half minute later Doc Rowden and Green exchanged slashes and both wer ! off. Bond. broke y and Scott drew a" penalty {fo way through but Jeffery saved. Row- den and Bond combined nicely but Jack's shot was a little weak, Lane drew a cpnalty when he charged and tripped Green. Leveque made a lovely save when Hull went right in after taking Green's pass. Three minutes later Green was sent off for tripping Black. Doc and Houck combined nicely but Doc missed a perfect pass in front of the net. The period ended with the score Oshawa J, Belleville 0, Third Period . Oshawa started in with a rush, A minute after play opened, Rowden broke through and Green tripped him. He got a rest for that. Lane went down and Jeffery saved with his stick. It looked lucky. Belleville scored their first goal when A, Weir JIM GILFILLAN Alternate left winger, of the Osh- awa Seniors, who showed up well last night in the game with Belle- ville, Jim has not had much chance to get into the game for any length of time, but last night he was used quite often and he made good use of his chance. He checked well, showed plenty of speed, and scored two of Oshe awa's four goals, both on pretty "avs, ICE again Pontiac has im proved upon a car already noted for its outstanding To the hundreds of thousands who own Pontiacs, and to everyone who is interested in qualities.
