When cut- ting ice three weeks ago, Green found a setting of hen's eggs in the centre of a block of ice. He cut the eggs out of the ice. He put the eggs in a pan on top of his. furnace to thaw out, forgot about them until last night when he went down to shake his fur- nace. He heard chirping. . Looking at the top of the furnace, he found eight Leghorn chicks. Everyone of them was covered with. what 'resembled fur instead of feather down. The invaders entered the town quietly, burned a fiery cross and while hundreds of citizens looked on paraded to the home of the negro and demanded production of the girl. In the face of nearly 100 white garbed invaders the negro offered no resistance, The girl and the man were taken from the house and both escorted. to the home of her parents. The Klansmen are believed to be.all outsiders. There is no branch of the Klan in Oakville. It was stated tonight that they had been imported for the definite purposc of taking the girl home, Chief of Police Kerr stated that the Klansmén created no public disturbance, and conducted them- selves quietly and kept within the Jaw. Of the farmers present the majority were members of the U.F.C. Saskatche- wan section, but that organization as such is not sponsoring political action. A province-wide convention will be held by the new political asso- ciation in the city hall, Regime, on Wednesday, April 2, at 9.30 a.m, it was decided by the provincial committee appointed at Saturday's organization meeting. , There is said to be a feeling among Labor men favoring a work- ing alliance with the new party. A joint meeting of the two elements on Saturday, however, failed to re- sult in definite agreement. M. Coldwell, Regina, teacher, and organizer of the Independent Labor party there, opposed limit- ing ' membership in' the proposed new organization to farmers or men of one vocation, There were only two groups in . soclety, he thought, "those who own and con- trol and enjoy and those who do not control but produce." Mem- bers of both old parliamentary par- ties were competitive in business, and so in politics; whereas t"ie new group would be co-operative, Purely occupational representation would not work under present con- ditions, he maintained. He instanc- ed the success of the British Labor party in making use of such figures as Ramsay MacDonald, Philip Snowden, the, Webbs and the Ber- nard Shaws, none of them work- ing members of trades unions. Two conferences were needed on faturdey béfore the final decision as reached to launch a'new poli- tical venture. i Temperance Orator--"Some ad- vocate moderation--others demand Prohibition. When eight days have passed, un- less plans change, the "war of in- dependence' will have begun. Gandhi is silent and regards secrecy as a vital part of his scheme. But his followers say the "Great Soul" himself will lead the civil disobedience campaign when it opens eight days hence in the salt district of Gujerat. If Gandhi is "arrested, as his followers ex- pect, the cloak will fall upon his chief lHeutenant, Mr, Patel, leader of the no-tax fiasco at Bardoli last year. It was this Patel who recently declared "a war unprecedented in the history of the world will start within a few days and the outbreak will be in Gujerat. Those who are afraid of death should go on 8 pllgrimaje and those possessing riches should leave the country." Gandhi's secretary, who has jusi returned from a vieit to Gujerat, asserts the leaders of the campaign fully anticipate that when the salt depots there are raided the raiders. will be fired upon. But he adds, speaking of the production of natural salt, "Everyone can manufacture salt over the whole coast-line." When the campaign begins of- ficers of towns and villages will be calleq upon to resign; civil servants will be summoned to sur- render their posts in the Govern- ment; all Government servants will be boycotted and non-payment of taxes will be advised.
