THE OSHAWA DAILY TIMES, FRIDAY, JULY 4, 1930 | SHAMROCKS D EFEAT MILLBROOK -- ST. SIMON'S HERE TOMORROW Oshawa Shamrocks Play Good Lacrosse to Defeat or Millbrook Intermediates Local Intermediate Lacrosse Team Gives Smart Dis Eastern Rivals; 92 -- Locals Produce Fast Game With Plenty of Smart and Bovin Have Big Night The Oshawa Shamrocks, the lo- gal snappy ontty in the Lake- shore group of the intermediate 0.A. L.A, strengthened thelr hold on the league leadership last night when they won a fast game from their visitors, Millbrook, by a score of 9 to 2, The game was by far the best ex- hibition given by the local inter- mediate team thise season and the only regrettable fact is that it was witnessed by a very small ¢rowd of spectators, The game was very fast and while feeling was always quite high, there was very little questionable play and penalities were scarce, The official in charge kept close tah on the offenders and outside of one brief and not " yory serious outbreak by "Red" Cardinal, he kept the game well in hand, The Shamrocks surprised the fans who were present by thelr speed and clever combination plays, Daniels was undoubtably the most offoctive man on the fleld and he and his teammates, Bovin, Garris son, and Cardinal executed some yory pretty plays, a number of which had the best possible sue. cons. Daniels accounted for three of the Oshawa tallles and passed to Bovin for his counter, Bovin ussisted' Kunkel to appear on the scoring list, Garrison tallied once but his clever playmaking was res. ponsible for a number of counters and his smart passing got him eredit for four assists, H, Cardinal scored twice and had one assist snd Murray got the other Oshawa tally, , Miller scored Millbrook's first gos! and passed to Nattress for their yecond tally, Miller, Nat. tress and Ingram were the best for Millbrook, The work of Danlels, Garrison and Cardinal ip especially noto- worthy, They attacked with sys. tem and carried out thelr thrusts at the oppobing net with the snap which assures success, Kvery one of the home men of the loeal team must have heen practising on the targots for thé last few days as they showed plenty of speed in their shots and their nocuracy was nigh perfect, ¥reelove, the Mill. brook custodian, gave hin best be- tween the nets and although one or two that slipped by looked a Nttle bit woft he must be excused as his defoncemen backed in on Bm In a woeful manner and he was given little or no chance, Even at that he made several nice saves, ne in particular being especially neat, Oshawa Defence Strong i 'While the Millbrook defence left quite a bit to be desired, the local rearguard turned in a good night's work, They were not called upon Thistles Defeat Ulster 2-1 in | Connaught Game by -- Hamilton, July 4,-~Whaen Thist« _ tles meet Toronto Ulsters in the second game in the home-and-home * peries for the right' to represent _ this part of the Province in the Con. * naught Cup play-offs the local team . will carry with them to Toronto a 8 to 1 lead, Thistles won by thi . moore last night before a crowd of 00 frenzied fans, who cheered @ team on to its greatest triumph yoars, The attendance of 1,600 'was a record ono for a twilight . played at Toronto on Saturday, Ye {ARLE W | umBt R (© Hoot Son GGER ICKS" : HQUIBLCLEANTNG Voloo of Hollywood to work as hird ss thelr opponents but they rose to great heights when the occassion demanded and the losers had to work hard to get thelr two gonls, Htokes, the Osh- awa gonlie, gave au smart display and broke the hearts of the rival sharpshooters hy one or two sensa- tional saves, Oshawa lead all the way and were never iu danger after half time, Daniels scored the first tally soon after play opened on an indiv- fdual effort, A few minutes later, Garrison took a pass from Cardin. al and banged it home, Miller weor~ ed for Millbrooks and the first quarter ended with the score Osh- awa 2, Millbrook 1, Oshawa got the only goal of the gocond period when Cardinal took # pass from Carrison and scored, This period produced the bos. la cromse of the night, In the third session, Danfels tallied twice, tak- ing passes from Pete' Garrison on both occassions, Oshawa's con dition proved much better than the visitors' and they ran wild in the final frame, Kunkel scored on » pass from Boyvin and shortly after Daniels gave Bovin & pass and he scored, Murray, coasted down from the defence to score the next one and then Millbrook came to life ond Nattress scored on a pass from Miller, Cardinal got the last goal of the game on a pass from Garri- won, The Teams Position Gon!
