Hundreds of men have been em- ployed in the undertaking in the Maritime Provinces and several hundred thousand dollars have been paid out to Maritime work- men since last March when the work was begun. Dr. Frank B. Jewett, president of the Bell Telephone Laboratories, announced in California that ex- perts were designing the cable to be laid from Newfoundland to Ire- land, and it was learned from au- thoritative sources that engineers were plotting the route of the Cape Breton-Newfoundland link in the chain. Necessity for the telephon- ic cable was emphasized by the somewhat "unreliable" radio phone service. | HARDWOOD FLOORS Laid by expert mechanics. Old floors finished like new. General Contractors, B.
