HAYNES 161 King St. West Phone 481 Residence 8078W By Raiders in New York, Jan. 16.--Attired in only a light cloak and a pair of stone, celebrated chorus beauty of the '90's, led dry agents an exciting chase over Manhattan rooftops a few hours before dawn today when her 'salon of wit, culture and bou- hommie"" was raided for the second time within a month. The "Belle of Bohemia's," dram. atic flight was to no avail, however, for she was caught as she reached the street and taken to a district police station, where she furnished $2,000 bail for her release on lig- uor law violation charges. Miss Livingstone, known varfous- ly during her career as "the Girl with Poetic Legs" and "the Most Dangerous Woman in the World," Former Chorus Beauty Captured Chase Qwer Roofs had retired to hes apartment on one of the upper floors of her East 58th street establishment when three of the agents arrived in evening clo- thes, After ordering eeveral drinks, for which they said they pald $1 a- plece, they advised patrons in the various parts of the "salon," devot- ed to dancing, dining, ping-pong and minjature golf, to leave quiet- ly. The patrons stampeded for the door in such haste, however, that the hostess was aroused, and the agents reached her apartment just in time to see her disappearing through a trap door in the ceiling. The agents arrested eight em- ployes of the place and seized a large number of bottles. ¢ TWO TOWNSHIPS ACCEPT TERMS OF THE HYDRO BOARD Rama and Mara to Surrender in Power Fight Orillia, Jan. 15.--Rama and Mara Townships, partners with Or- illla Township in the war being waged with the Orillia Water, Light and Power Commission over that body's demands that the townships submit to the "cancellation of all agreements whereby they secure power and light at less than cost | from Orillia municipally owned power organization and go over to Hydro at an increase in rates of ap proximately 300 per cent, will ac- cede to the Orillia Power Commis- sion"s demands, and withdraw un- conditionally from the fight at a special meeting of the three town: ship councils, it is expected. » This information, gleaned from an authoritative source, was follow- ed by the statement that~ Orillia Township would maintain its claims tor continuance of present agree- ments, issue writs and secure in- junctions necessary to maintain them, and would carry the fight, it necessary, to higher courts. This defection in the ranks of the townships is the direct result of re- cent elections whereby the ratepay- ers threw out the councillors in Mara and Rama who fought the at- tempted turnover to Hydro and vot- ed to accept the demands of Orillia Commission rather than go to court, Orillia Township on the other hand, backed their representatives in the fight to the extent of return- ing them by acclamation. It wili, according to its counsel, Boulton Marshal, fight to the last ditch. That a fight to the last' ditch wil be necessary, is the thought behind the unbending attitude of the Oril- lia Water, Light and Power Com- missfon, which has withdrawn all conciliatory offers, renounced any lesire to compromise and has blunt- ly affirmed its reluctance 'to have Parley has been made increasing- [any further parley with the town- ships. ly difficylt by the attitude of town- ship power users who have threat- ened a boycott of Orillia and Orillia stores, Gestruction of Orillia Power Commission property in their terri- tory, and physical violence to mem- berg of the Commission.
