SOLINA CHURCH ANNUAL MEETING Various Organizations Pre- sented Splendid Report For Year (Will L. Raker, Correspondent) Solina, Jan. 28.---The congrega- tional meeting was attended by about 75 members. Rev, J. Bick opened the meeting by using hymns 140 and 896, after which he read a Bible lesson and led in pray- er, Mr. Alan McKessock then gave a short talk and called on 'the vari- ous supterintendents who gave their reports. The C,G.LT. gave a splen- did 1eport with a balance on hand of $28.89. Adult Bible class just balanced up evenly. Joung Poo- ple's class has a balance of $52.92. The league reported a good year raising $62.00. M. and BE. fund, $617.00; 8.8. books gave a balance of $70.00; cemetery fund $49.00 In bank. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hayes and family vsited in Oshawa on Sunday, - MIRTLE HALL IS NOV COMPLETED Re-Opening Ceremony Is To Be Held on Friday Evening Myrtle, Jan, 38.--The Communi- R.|ty Hall is now nearly completed and it is intended to have the re. opening\ on Friday night of this week when a good concert and a box social will be given. » Mr. Jack Birnie, who was enroute from New Ontario, visited friends here the earlier part of the week. Mr. Perey Smith, who has been working for Mr. Bert Duff, left last week tor Dundalk. Mr. Ralph Annan gave a splendid report of the recent Sunday school convention, which was held in Brooklin, at the Sunday school on Sunday afternoon. The superin- tendent, Wiltred Graham, is greatly encouraged with the increased at. tendance from Sabbath to Sabbath, there being eighty-four present on Sunday. Mr. Fuller, of Oshawa, has mov- ed into the cottage, south of the vil- ge. Miss Pearl Vance spent the week- end with Mrs. James Lee, of Green- bank. The Women's Missionary society with which is affiliated the C.G.LT. held a Mothers' and Daughters' ban- quet in the church basement on Fri- day evening with a splendid atten- dance present. Ladies, who were not fortunate in havng daughters of their own, "borrowed one from a friend for the evening. After par- taking of a very satisfying repast from prettily decorated tables, the able toast mistress, Mrs. Roy Thompson, called on members of the W.M.8. and C.G.LT. girls for toasts and responses which were well given and each brought out the toast which they were propos- ing very ably. Miss Armstrong, who {8 home on furlough from the West and taking a six-weeks' course in mission work in Toronto; gave a splendid talk on her work that she is so deeply interested in. A duet by Mesdames Leury and Tordiff, was greatly appreciated. Mrs, Smart of Greenwood, gave a very interest- Ing talk on the work of the Cana- dian Girls in training and made her anponal so clear that all present liould not soon forget it. Hope, Correspondent) Scugog, Jan. 27,~The Women's Association met in the Township Hall last Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 20th. The meeting was well at- tended and very interesting. Our new president, Mrs. Geo. Sweet. man took charge, The first on the program was bible verses read re- sponsively, Then Mrs, A. Plougham gave a reading of something for every day of the week. Mrs, Geo. samells and Miss Hazel Sweet sang a duet, with Miss Myrtle Sweetman presiding at the organ. Mr, J. Joblin gave us one of his splendid talks. Two new commit. tees were added * to our list of workers. A prayer circle in charge of Mrs. J. Joblin and Mrs. Geo. Jackson. A visiting committee in 'charge of Mrs. R., Hood, Mrs, A. Ploughman, Mrs. D. Hope, Mrs. Geo, Samells. The Roll was called responding to a verse in the bible commencing with the letter C. We have two new members this year, would like several more. After the close of the meeting we were in- vited to the dining part of the hall where a table was set with all the 80d things besides hot mashed Dotatoes and corned beef.. Group No. ¢ had this meeting in charge. They are Mrs. Pettit, Mrs. W. Mark. Mrs, Stephenson, Mrs, A. Mc- Kensie and Mrs. Wanamaker, who could not be present. They gave to the young folks a special invitation for tea and evening which was spent in games and contests. A very enjoyable time wag spent by all. Proceeds $11.30, Mr, J. Burnham spent the week- end in Toronto, Mrs. Bushin and children has returned to her home in Buffalo after her visit with her parents. Mr. and Mrs; A. Black, who went as far as Toronto with her. Mr. and Mrs, Byres has returned to their home in Whitby after their visit with her brother. Mr. Geo. Bratley. He lived there nearly ali his 78 years. where his son, Stew- art now lives. Mr. Rodman bought the farm known as the Thompson place and moved there a few years ago. He has been in very poor health for quite a while, But since the last of October he has not been able to be up. He was a very patient sufferer, He had a smile, a hand shake and a joke for his host of friends, a great friend to children, A great pillar of the church is gone. The funefhl ser- vice was held in the head church where he and his family and his parents always attended. The Rev. H. Stainton, of Pickering, Rev. J. Biford and Mr. J. Joblin of Scugog 'paid their last tribate to the de- parted and gave the ones present a great message of hopefulness by faith. Two of his favourite hymns. were sung. "Nearer My God To, Thee", and "In the Sweet By and By". He leaves to mourn his vac« ant place his wife, two sons, Orr of Buffalo, Stewart, at home, one daughter, Mrs. J. Dusty, of Green- bank, one brother in Buffalo, one sister, Mrs. W. T. Reader, of Port' Perry and Miss Flora Miller, who has been as a daughter to thém for several years. The pall bearers were his life long friends, Mr. Harvey Plum, of Prince Albert, Mr. Geo. Hudson, Mr, J. Harvey, Mr. C. Whinsett, of Port Perry, Mr. J. Pearce and Mr. R, Carter, of Scugog. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery, Prinse Albert. The coni- munity joins in sympathy with the bereaved family, Mr. and Mrs. A. Ploughman and daughter. Audrey, visited with Mr. and Mrs, Geo. Samells on Mondsy evening. Miss H, Sweet spent the week- end with her parents in Oshawa. Mr. an8 Mrs. H. Collerfn and children is staying with Mr. Geo. Bratley for a few weeks, Mr. and Mrs. J, Milner and Ray attended the funeral of their cousin, Mr. E. Ingram, of Port Perry on Sunday.
