SIMON'S Toronto, Aug. 20.--Brampton and Native Song are fifinally nal- ists in the O.A.L.A.., the Excel'rs winning the right to meet the Aborigines in the championship round last evening on the plains of the Weston Fair Grounds by a 5 to 4 score after ten minutes of overtime play. Dreams of an all. Toronto final between the Church- men and the Natives were ghatter- ed when Brampton staged one of the most courageous rallies to overcome a four-goal deficit and win out when night shadows were threatening to end the game, Brampton now meets Native Sons in the O.A.I.A. finals, with the first game at Ulster Stadium Sat- urday. FFew play-off games in recent vears have ereated so much inter- est, and public concern as the St. Simon's and Brampton semi-final, When the teams met in Bramp- ton in the first game last week the Anglicans won out by a one-goal margin, Then the Excelsiors tied Lhe score by scoring the only goal of the game at Varsity last Sat- urday, and the spectators took a part in the controversy when the teams refused to play overtime. The scene then changed to the O. A.LLA, committee - rooms, where the teams were ordered to fidish their fight on the neutral field at Weston, and the Florists emerged from all the mix-up winners last night, advancing another step in defence of the Mann Cup Cana- dian champlonship. Brampton won the game, and extended round yesterday on sheer fight, After being buried under a 4 to 0 deficit that would have ruined the average club, the champions of last year battled from behind, gambled with the odds and eventually won out, It was the old code of play that the best defensive in a strong offen- sive that won for Brampton, for the Excelsiors sent every man but the goaler on the attack in a desperate effort to win, and their campaign was a success. Had either team taken the same chance in the game at Varsity Stadium last Saturday the series would have been ended and all the fol- lowing trouble, extra game -and general mess averted. LEFTY GROVE HURLS TWENTY-FIFTH WIN Chicago, Aug. 20. -- Robert Moses Grove, the mighty lefthand- er of the world champion Phila- delphia Athletics: yesterday be- came a shareholder of the Ameri- can League record of sixteen con- secutive pitching victories by de- feating the White Sox, 4 to 2. Connie Mack's fire ball hurler tied the mark set in 1912 by Smokey Joe Wood of the Boston Red Sox, and equalled the same vear by Walter Johnson of Wash- ington, but not without a ninth inning scare. LAST HOPE GONE FOR WASHINGTON Cleveland, Aug. 20.--Pounding six pitchers for a total of 25 hits the Cleveland Indians yesterday slugged out a double victory over the Washington Senators, 10 to § and 10 to 8, in the first two games of a five-game series. Ear] Averill"s twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth home-runs of the sea. son and Eddie Morgan's eighth, were the decisive blows in the first victory, which was at the expense of Sad Sam Jones. In the night- can "Lefty" Burke was charged with his second defeat since his recent no-hit, no-run game, GIANTS REGAIN SECOND PLACE New York, Aug. 20.--The New York Giants recaptured second place in the National League yes- terday as they rallied in the ninth to score two runs and beat the Cincinnati Reds, 6 to 5, while the Cubs and Robins were splitting even, After holding the Giants to four hits in the first six innings, Red | Lucas blew up in the late rounds and allowed the Giants to over- come a four-run lead obtained by the Reds in the second inning at the expense of Berly and Parme- lee. Tony Cuccinello was directly re- sponsible for the tying and win- ning runs crossing the plate in the ninth when, with the bases loaded, he made a low heave of Terry's grounder past Sukeforth in an attempt to start a double play at the home plate. BISONS TOSE ANOTHER Buffalo, Aug. 20.--The losing streak of the tail-end Buffalo Bis- ons mounted to 18 games in 271 starts here last night, as they dropped another decision to Read- ing by a score of- 10to 651i na loosely played contest. Poor decl- sions by the umpires and errors in vital spots marred the game and injured the Bisons' chances. Two Reading misplays also gave the Herd two of its runs. The slugging of Dolijack, formerly of Detroit, who drove ip four tallies with a long triple and two sin- gles, featured for the winners. Doljack also stole three bases and scored twice. TEACHERS' EMPIRE CENTRE (By The Canadian Press) London.--The provision in Lendon of an Empire centre for teachers is being undertaken by the Univer- sity of London. The idea is to form an Institution of Education based upon the London Day Training Col- lege and the Education department in King's College. Sir Percy Nunn, Professor of Education at the Uni- versity of London, advocated such an institution when speaking at the British Commonwealth Fduca- tion Conference held in London re- cently, when he said: "It is essential that we should build up within the university of J.ondon an institute of education whose main purpose would be to debate the educational problems and formulate the educa- tional experiences of Great Britain and her daughter nations, TIMETABLE WHITBY, OSHAWA, BOWMANVILLE BUS LINES Week Day Schedule (Effective on and after April 13th 1931) (Daylight Saving Time) est Arrive Arrive Wii Hospital 11.35 am * L1S pm. 3.15 p.m. 6.15 p.m. €.15 pm. 7.45 p.m, " 10.00 p.m. . 12.00 a.m. Leave Hospital 215 pm, "15 p.m. Lv. 9 0.30 p.m. 10.45 p.m. 11.00 If it is to be bought or sold -- Times Classified Ads will do it 3.30 pm. 5.30 p.m. 6.30 p.m. 6.45 p.m 8.00 p.m. 10.15 p.m. 10.5 p.m. 12.15 a.m, ough busses to mow wSZe E82 On p.m, SUNDAY AND HOLIDAY SCHEDULE Leave Bowmanville Oshawa 9.00 a.
