(49-55-60) Oshawa this day of August, HE COULDN'T READ FOR INDIGESTION "For some years previous to 1922 I was subject to indigestion, with headaches and thousands of stars sparkling in my eyes, which prevented me from reading. I decided to try Kruschen Salts. That was August, 1922, and | have taken a little in my first morning cup of tea ever since. I now eat anything, and am en- tirely free from indigestion or 'stars.' ""--F.C. Now let it be said quite def- initely, that what Kruschen did for him, it will do for everybody else who suffers from indigestion as he did. The fact is that "the little daily dose" first stimulates the flow of gastric juices to ald digestion, and then ensures com- plete, regular, and unfailing eli- mination of all waste matter every day. Soon after you start on Krus- chen you will begin to feel the benefit. You will find to your sat- isfaction that you are able to en- joy your food without any dis- tressing after-effects. And, as you persevere, you wil] see that the relief which Kruschen brings is lasting relief, Mr. John E. Burgess In how to live it seems to be As well we often disagree. --Farmer Brown's Boy. Farmer Brown's Boy, Flip the Terrier and Cousin Tom, in whose airplane they had made the long journey across the country, were at last in Cali- fornia, the land of sunshine, roses and oranges, not to men- tion other things. It was Flip Flip who first made the acquaint- ance of one of the little Califor- nia people and at first mistook him for an old acquaintance back home in the East. Flip was out early the morn- ing after their arrival eager to see who and what he could find of interest to an inquisitive small Dog with a lot of energy to work off. Almost at once he discovered a small person sitting up watch- ing him. Flip paused and looked hard at this little stranger. In- stantly he thought of Happy Jack the Gray Squirrel. Many, many times had he ghased Happy Jack, but always Happy Jack had run up a tree and from the safety of its branches made fun of Flip and called him names, Each time Flip had resolved that some day he would get even. Now he didn't stop to think that he was far from home, : "As I live.it is that fellow," thought he, "and this time I'll get him, There isn't a tree near enough for him to reach before 1 can catch him, He'll never make fun of me again." With an eager yelp Flip started for that squirrel and it seemed as if his feet hardly touched the ground. The Squirrel started too and he ran just as Happy Jack runs, bounding along, his big tail slightly lifted. Flip didn't notice that that tail was not quite so broad as Happy Jack's and he didn't notice that it wasn't the beoutiful silvery gray of the lat- ter"s, but was a yellowish gray. He didn't notice that the coat of this squirrel was a mixture of gray and light brown and darker tones, giving it almost a spotted appearance, He was too excited and in too much of a hurry to notice such matters. Here was a fellow about Happy Jack's size, with a bushy tail, and in general looking llke Happy Jack, and there wasn't 'a tree near enough for him to climb. He didn't even notice that this fellow didn't ap- pear badly frightened and wasn't hurrying over much, "I'll get him this time!" thought Flip, "He hasn't a chance in the world to get away from me this time." The Squirrel disappeared around a big stone and two sec- onds later Flip dashed around it excepting to see his would-le victim just a little way ahead. He was running so fast that he was well past the big stone be- fore it dawned on him that he was chasing nothing, just noth- ing at all. There was no Squirrel in sight. Flip put the brakes on and stopped as quickly as he could, Such a funny look as there was on his face. That fellow had vanished, vanished «ompletely. Flip whirled to look behind him. He jumped up to look over the grass better. He decided that the fellow must have dodged around the big stone and prob- ably was hiding on the other side. Back he raced and around the big stone and probably was hiding on the other side, Back he raced and around the big stone. No Squirrel, He stood up with his paws on the stone to look over itis He yelped with dis- appointment and chagrin. He had been so sure of that Squirrel that even now he couldn't believe that he had escaped. It just didn't seem possible. At last he quieted down enough to get right down to busi- ness to find out what had become of that fellow, He went slowly around that big stone, sniffing and looking for a hiding-place under the edge of it. And so at length he came to a hole, a hole that led right down under that big stone, One sniff told him that this was where that Squirrel had gone, Flip tried to dig down, but soon gave it up as a bad job. He backed off and stared at that hole hopelessly. "This js the first time I ever knew Happy Jack to go into a hole in the ground," he mutter- ed. But this was Flip's mistake. It wasn't Happy Jack the Gray Squirrel at all. It was Twitch- tail the California Ground Squir- rel who had so completely fooled him. ' (Copyright, - 1931, by T. W. Burgess).
