a THE OSHAWA DAILY TIMES, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1931 PAGE TEN Fastest Trotters To Be Seen At 1931 Oshawa Fair Junior Fair Big Feature Of Interest Looking to the future years, when generations of new exhibitors will have to be trained to make the Oshawa Fair a continuing success, the directors have made special pro- vision in their prize list for the Oshawa Junior Fair, which is con- ducted jomtly under the auspices of the Oshawa Kiwanis Club, the South Ontario Agricultural Society and the Ontario Department of Ag- riculture, which co-operate in pro- viding generous prize moncy for these classes. The junior fair is open to all boys and girls of On- tariowan¢ rhe Counties andes the age of]? years. he judging glen | fair is all done on Wednesday, September 16, start- ing at one o'clock. 4 ? : Fhe competitions in this gestion of the fair are such as will develop the right type of agricultural train- ing for boys and girls. Live stock classes include colts, dairy and beef calves, market lambs and bacon hogs, while there is a special com- petition in showmanship. _ Other classes brought 'out exhibits of poultry, sced grain and sheaves, po- tatoes, fruits and vegetables. Some special trophies are also available for competition. A championship prize of a two-weeks' course at the Ontario College of + Agriculture, iGuelph, will be awarded by the On- tario Department of agriculture to the competitor who wins the great- est number of points in these junior Ycections. A special prize of a silver tea service, valued at $25.00, and do- nated by the T. Eaton Company, Limited, will be given for the best dairy calf owned and raised by the exhibitor or by tle parent or guar- dian of the exhibitor, and a special silver trophy, donated by R. N. Bas- sett, will bc given for the best becf calf shown. : Another interesting feature in connection with the junior, fair is that the prizes will be presented to the winners at a banquet to be given to all junior exhibitors by the Oshawa Kiwanis Club about two weeks after the fair. With all these special features, the junior fair this year is expected td be the most successful on record, and the fair directors are giving it the maximum of attention. "ig 'Parade of Livestock Is Big Feature Visitors to the Oshawa Fair have 3 always taken a keen interest in the parade of prize-winning live stock "on the afternoon of the last day of the fair. This year the directors . have again included this feature on the program, and have arranged , that all prize winning animals in 'sthe horse and cattle tlasses will parade in front of the grand stand on Thursday, September 17, at four pm. This parade, it is . an- nounced, will be handled in a man- ner similar to the great Scottish and Enclish live stock shows, and it is compulsory for the exhibitors of all prize-winning cattle and "horses to have their animals in the parade, otherwise the prize money will be withheld. This rule will be strictly enforced in order to make the parade & live stock complete. This should be the feature attrac- tion, from the agricultural stand- s.point, of the last day of the fair, : and the grandstand should be filled to capacity to view it. 'WW. H. MOORE, M.P. WANT LIGHTER BALES The Seed Branch of the Ddémin- ion Department of Agriculture e received complaints from hay dcal- ers that the present practice by Canadian farmers of putting up hay in bales to weights of 150 pounds or more is killmg the market for Canadian baled hay. Popular de- mand today is for a light bale that can be easily handled by the buyer, who in most cases, is a carter or truckman, who has to carry the bale on his shoulder to his fee loft." Bales weighing from 110 to 120 pounds will find a much more ready market than heavier bales | { DR. T. E.
