Aug. 28.--Locz! police authorities had a busy time on Sunday in the matter of stolen cars. A Buick sedan was discovered in the ditch, a mile and a half east of the village, early Sunday morn- ing. Its engine was badly damaged. | A second hand car, which had been left parked outside at the Law Gar- age, was taken, but apparently re- | fused to be a party to such nefarious practises, for it was soon abandon- ed. D. Warren reported the loss of his car which had been left parked #t the side of his house on King street east. The police believe that the three thefts were closely relat- ed. Mr. Warren's drivers' license, which he left in the car, was found on the lawn of W. G. Reid, on Mon- day. This would indicate that the car had been driven west. Latest reports show that no clue as to the | whereabouts of the vehicle has yet been found. Members of the Kinsale branch were the guests of the local Wo- men's Institute, at the home of Miss D. Bayne, on Tuesday afternoon, for the August meeting which was well attended. Mrs. B. Howey, South On- tario District president, brought a message of encouragement in which she read a greeting from an Insti- tute member in England. An inter- esting paper on "New Strength for the Staff of Life," by Miss M. West- ney, described the discovery of a new process for retaining the wheat germ in white flour, and the roll call was answered by & "health proverb." Refreshments were served out-of- doors, under the supervision of Mrs G. Law, Mrs. A. Lawson and Mrs. F. H. Hall. Mr, and Mrs. I. Marks of. Tor- onto, were Sunday visitors with Mrs. G. W. Barker and family. Master Paul Firby of Toronto, :s visiting for & few days with Mr. and Mrs. A. Boyes. Although the matter so far seems to be rather indefinite, owing to lack of communications from the authorities, it is expected that the local schools will follow the example of those in nearby centres, and re- sume classes on Tuesday, Septem- ber 3rd. Mrs. E. Partington and son, Paul, are holidaying at Wilberforce, with the Taylor family. Rev. E. G. and Mrs. Robinson and daughter, Joyce, returned home on | Monday after spending a week holi- daying near Kinmount. Mr. sad Mrs. W. Harris spent the week-end with friends at Cobourg. Misses Joan Muir and Margaret Robertson, of Toronto, were week- end visitors with L. M. and Mrs. Morley. Miss Marion Clarke of Toronto, visited with her cousins, the Misses Rorke, during the week-end. Mrs. G. W. Barker and daughter, Betty, spent last week with relatives «. the lake, near Cobourg. During the absence of the rector, | Rev. E. G. Robinson, services at St. George's Church, on Suniay, were in charge of Mr. K. Kingston, lay reader. Mrs. J. Jackson, of Toronto, has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. Gordon, during the past week. Miss Jean Clark, and Mr. Billy Clerk, of Lakefield, are spending a week with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Royes. Louis Scott, and George Heron are the local representatives of the advance detachment of the Ontario Regiment who left for Camp Niag- sara on Monday, for two weeks training. 28 | | 27 | | ed on the lawn. 25 | 24 | 28 | 27 | 25 | 25 | 26 | Brougham. On Wednesday, August 14, a pretty wedding took place at Claremont United Church manse, when Miss Helen Farley and William Allan Gray were united in marriage by Rev. I. E. Kennedy. The bride wore a white silk jersey dress and match- ing accessories, aad carried wh' a and yellow hybrid roses. Miss Ph; .i: * Farley, sister of the bride wa: bridesmaid, wearing a dress of tur- quoise blue sheer with white acces- sories. Her flowers were roses. The groom was supported by his cousin, Mr. Howard Plaxton. After return- ing to the bride's home for light refreshments, the happy couple left for a motor trip to Windsor and other western points. The bride travelled in a hyacinth blue sheer dress. On their return the happy couple will reside neat Brougham.
