And with such early treatment, there would be no deaths from cancer. Unfortunately cancer does not come suddeniy nor does it come with some outstanding symptoms that can be immediately recogniz- ed. It comes in a quiet innocent manner on the outside--the skin-- of the body, or without any appar- ent symptom in the inside of the body, some "hidden" spot. On the outside, some little sore that, without thinking, you may keep irritated by washing vigorous- ly or even picking with your fin- gers. Perhaps there is a mole or wart present that gets irritated in the same manner. These sores, warts or moles, because they are common conditions found on many people, may be growing slowly or changing in appearance without any pain, They are forgotten until they have developed into cancer. Fortunately, as they are on the skin and outside the body, they can usually be cured by surgery, Xray, or radium. Inside the body, cancer may ex- ist with such slight symptoms that they are overlooked. However, there is usually some symptom present, though slight, that those of cancer age should keep in mind, and if they do, it may save their lves. Thus, in women, lumps in the breast due to enlarged milk glands are so common that a woman may think the lump is an enlarged milk gland when it is really cancer. Early removal of a breast cancer prevents spreading to other parts of the body. In women also any prolonging of the monthly flow should be in- vestigated by the family physician, because many women have this ex- cess flowing as they near the meno- pause and consider it a natural | condition, In men, cancer of the stomach | may give no symptoms whatever | but close Investigation usually shows that there has been slight but persistent indigestion, Bleeding from the rectum is often the first sign of cancer to be noticed. In cases where there is gradual loss of weight with slight indiges- tion, cancer should be suspected. By removing cancer in its early stages, thousands of lives are being saved, despite the fact that the cause of cancer still remains une known. Remember, early cancer is curable; late cancer is always fatal, Careless Driver Fined By Lindsay Justice Lindsay, Nov. 20--Reginald Lyte, of Lindsay, charged w.th careless driving before Magistrate E A. Gee here on Monday was fined $5 and | costs when he pleaded guilty. Lyte and Robert O. Rumney, of Coboconk, were both charged with careless driving as the result of an accident on Highway 25 recently after Rumney rammed the rear of Lyte's car when the latter stopped on the highway to allow a passen- ger to alight.
