THE OSHAWA DAILY TIMES, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 194C PAGE FIFTEEN | THROW AWAY THE RENT CARD -- USE A RENTAL AD BELOW Births - KING--At Oshawa General Hospi- tal on Nov. 25th, to Mr. 'and Mrs. C. King (nee Nancy Walker) a son. Both well. (104a) In Memoriam OROWELL--In loving memory of Carol Cecelia Crowell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crowell, who died Nov. 27, 1939. Beside your grave we often stand, with hearts both crushed and sore, But in the gloom the sweet words come, Not lost, but gone "efore. God alone knows how much we miss ou, He els the tears we shed. And whispers, She's only sleeping, Your loved one is not dead. So we will be brave, dear Carol, And pray to Ged each day, And when He calls us home to you, Your smile will guide the way. Ever remembered by mama and daddy. (104a) CROWELL--In loving memory of Carol Cecelia Crowell, who died Nov. 27, 1939. Gone from the earth so swiftly, Just. like a flower in bloom, So young, so fair, so loving, Yet called away so soon. We shall meet her some bright morning, Resting by waters fair, She is waiting for our coming In the upper garden there. Safe in the arms of Jesus. Ever remembered by Grandma Crowell and Grandma Dyas, and |t family. (1042) | Legal LOUIS S. HYMAN, BARRISTER Solicitor, Notary, etc. Royal Bank | Bldg. Phone 67, Residence 3051. A. W 8S. Free Health Cras, (30Dec.c) in weight, type, and finish, have to be discarded in making selection for export Wiltshire sides of bacon 8ince bruises, particularly those deep seated, reduce the value of the total production of pork, this is eventually a charge on the indus- try. Under the old system -of live grade payment, this was just as true as it is today under rail grad- ing, with the difference that under the former, bruises were not always detectable in pigs on foot Such blemishes are apparent un- der carcass grading and thus the means 18 provided whereby the cause may be traced back to Its source and the loss horne where it belongs. Bruising may or may not start at the farm. It may occur dur- ing transit to market by rail or by truck. It may be the result of rough handling off cars and off trucks, and it may occur in stock yards and packers yards. Therefore the whole problem of bruise prevention comes very much to the fore, and it at once becomes apparent that every step in hog delivery and handling from the pig pen to the rail, should be closely checked and undertaken with care. Whether the producer is trucking on his own behalf, employs a truck- er or has his hogs shipped by rail, he is primarily interested in pre- ventive measures, such as the dis- carding of sticks and prods in driv- ing hogs, the use of properly con=- structed partitions in truck and car, careful unloading, «egregation of fighting hogs and other logical pre- cautions which immediately suggest themselves to anyone who has ex- perience with easily bruised live stock. These measures are all inex- pensive and quite practical The united, sustained effort of all parties concerned, farmer, drover, shipper, carrier, commission man and packer employee would solve the problem almost overnight. The elimination of bruises on hogs would mean more profits to the in- dustry. Confident of Changes "The committee of the legislature has completed its deliberations. 1 am confident that the recommen- dations will be adopted There are no controversial matters and all parties are represented. If the re- commendations are mace effective I think you will see a very material improvement that will make justice available to every man with the minimum of expense and legal ram- ifications," Mr Conant predicted. "We have lagged far behind Eng- land in this respect. I do not want to go into the question of grand juries. They have been aholished in England for some yea:s But in many respects of our law adminis- tration we have lagged far behind England. This report is an attempt to remedy this condition for the province of Ontario, at least," the Attorney-General declared. Praises County Councils At the outset of his remarks the Attorney - General expressed his pleasure at returning to the county council where he was a member twenty-five years ago before the incorporation of Oshawa as a city "I always felt in those days, when I was a member and later when I became Crown Attorney and clerk of the peace for this county dealing more intimately with-expenses and the system of distribution of costs that it was archaic and reminins- cent of the norse and buggy era," Mr. Conant asserted, "I used to think in those days that the legislature wes just a "glorified county council" I've changed my mind considerably since but I will say this--exper- {ence in municipal life, whether lo- ral or county, training for the lezislature." The Attorney General out that governmental sroblems af- 'ected a larger area and that "while it is not difficult to envision the problems affecting a county of even a hundred square miles in area more -amifications arise when you have to consider a whole province." EAST-WEST CHAMP. FOOTBALL GAME Toronto, Nov. 27 (CP).--The gen- eral public had accepted today the fact that there will be no East West football game this year, as an- | nounced by Fred Hamilton, presi- dent of the Sports Service League. here last night. Earlier yesterday all-star team to meet Winnipeg Blue Bombers, western champions, was dropped also. He said "It is with bitter disap- pointment that I make this an- nouncement. triotic players in eastern Canada ready and willing to co-operate by meeting the Bombers. However, we felt in justice to ourselves and the public that nothing short of a game between the Bombers and the east- ern champions would do." His announcement ended weeks of speculation regarding the possibili- ties of the game. Originally, teams had been asked to agree to a meet- ing of eastern and western cham- pions, with the proceeds to go to war charities in the East and West. The 8.8L. president believed the game would contribute $10,000 to the war effort at home, But eastern clubs and the Cana- dian Rugby Union refused to play the game. Balmy Beach sald a few weeks ago it would play, but with- drew the offer Tuesday. Ottawa held out for O.R.U. jurisdiction is an invaluable pointed | over the game, and the C.R.U, voted in refusal. "The Canadian Rugby Union in general and the eastern representa tives of that body can now answer to the public," Hamilton said in ane nouncing the final collapse of age rangements, "The Canadian Rugby Union has most thoroughly and most successe fully tossed every obstacle in the path of our war effort venture for purposes best known to themselves, So we retired, feeling that we have dene all in our power to give Canae dian sports fans the benefit of one of the most attractive inter-seoe tional contests and at the same time to make a valuable contribu tion to the thousands of Canadian troops in training, "We leave it to the public ta de- cide whether the C.R.U. acted in the best interests of sport in gen- eral and in the best interests of Canadian patriotism in these wap times by. successfully blocking our efforts to. promote an east-west football game for our Canadian troops."
