We all took UNFAIRTO PEOPLE seconds of everything we could (Continued from Page 3) carry away for souvenirs. One fel- best interests of the people will be served is contained in freedom to propose, discuss, criticize and seek changes in public policy. We hold that in time of war, perhaps even more than in time of peace, it is es- sential that the people have power to exercise control over the govern- ment. "We express it as our emphatic opinion that the Defence of Canada Regulations must be amended so as to guarantee the fullest freedom of speech, press and organization, pre- serving the regulations only in such sections as are absolutely necessary to protect Canada against sabotage and betrayal of military secrets. We call for the immediate release of all interned trade union leaders and fair trial for all those who have been interned without legal pro- cedure. We would favor the calling of a national conference in the near future, which would be open to all organizations in Canada to discuss questions of civil liberties and democracy." OSHAWA SOLDIER MEETS KING, QUEEN (Continued from Pége 3) explosions all around us and we were glad when we saw the RAF. planes arriving on the scene. It was all over in a few minutes but it seemed like hours. We have had Jots more raids and some far worse since then, but I'll never forget that first one. We see many dog fights and lots | of German planes brought down. | On one occasion one Spitfire tackl- | ed two German 'Dorniers." After | bringing one of them down the Spitfire seemed to get out of con- | trol and started downward. The pi- low some distance away thinkine it was a German pilot that was com- ing down, took a shot at him and wounded the pilot in the shoulder. We have been blown cut of our beds at night by concussion from high explosive bombs and machine gumming but I'still think that first raid exmerience was the worst, We don't mind it now and only wish we had a chance to hit back. But our turn will come and I hope it will not be long as we all want to get back to Canada soon. Meets King And Queen I spent a few days on leave in London last week and had the hon- or of meeting the King and Queen. They were touring the bombed dis- trict around Waterloo Station and made a visit to the Union Jack Club. 1 happened to be there at the time. Their Majesties wanted a pic- ture taken with representatives of each country at the club. There were Australians, New Zealanders, The Navy, Air Forces and British Army men there. I was the only Canadian present and stood next to King George when the picture was taken. I had the pleasure of shak- ing hands with both the King and Queen and talking with them for a few minutes. They mentioned their tour of Canada last year. They were very nice and I feel very proud to have had the honor of meeting them personally. It's time for "lights out." So I must draw this to a clcse. Will be pleased to hear from anyone who reads this and cares to write. i Good night and God bless you all. It's "lights out" as Jerry is over- head. Yours truly, PTE.
