Gowling, takes second place to no one in the matter of experience, With a record behind him which includes 49 years of teaching 20,- 000 pupils and 37 years as a member of the board, fellow trustees had no doubt they chose the right man when this year they elected Mr, Gowling to a fourth term as chair- man, As a school trustee, Mr. Gowling takes particular interest in the wel- fare of teachers and other school personnel. Unprejudiced by his own business interests, he backed the establish ment of a school of fine arts and applied science in 1811. The school gave students from grades 7 to 10 courses in typewriting, shorthand and other commercial subjects. Girls, he says, are better than boys at shorthand and typewriting. Wartime drives to grow more food and diversion of chemicals for ammunition produce tion have resulted in a general de- cline ot soil fertility While the present demand for fertilizers is ahs normal, supplies are short, # b replenishment,. owing to war wwMages to main sources of supply, is on a lower scale than before the war. To bridge over the critical period of shortages in fertilizers, the Com- bined Food Board of the United Nations has set up two bodies to insure equitable distribution. The International Emergency Food Council (IEF.C.) with headquar- ters in Washington, D.C., is the main and final authority for world fertilizer allocation. The Emergency Economic COmmittee for Europe (EECE), which has its office in London, England, acts as a regional advisory body proposing allocations for Burope and collects statistical . information, The Fertilizer Working Commit- tee of the EROCE. estimates that world fertilizer output in 1946-47 will be in excess of pre-war, but still not large enough to satisfy demand, RADIO SERVICE GUARANTEED -- IMMEDIATE 'BUTT RADIO & APPLIANCE 130 Brock St. N.,, Whitby .
