Small Things Aid Job Advancement The job. advancement of the feminine office worker so often depends upon the way she looks and behaves that these cardinal rules on what to do, briefed by a movie company expert, are worth clipping out and pasting up by the career-minded girl. | 1. Don't overdo makeup. The office is no place for exaggerated effects. 2. Don't tug at a girdle. Or pull up stocking. You don't need to be told why. 3. Don't file the nails, or put on makeup at your desk. The powder room is reserved for that. 4. Don't sprawl. Or sit like a letter "S." Besides being ungrace- ful, such posture undermines effi- ciency. . 5. Don't have a mirror on your wall. Very few girls can resist the temptation to preen. Here are some questions our youthful readers ask: Courtesy Corsage: "My girl ex- pects me to provide her with a corsage every time we go danc- ing. Is this necessary. I can't afford it." Certainly not. When its a big dance with formals and tails, it rates a corsage. When it's small and cosy, flowers aren't necessary. One rose or one car=- nation does a lot to perk up the evening if you can afford it. If you can't, skip it. Any smart girl will understand. Should Flowers Be Sent? Definitely. Phone your girl, see what she's wearing, shop for your corsage and have it sent. She wants to take a little time to pin it on and adjust it. Boxed or Worn: "When my beau brings me a corsage, should I carry it in the box to the dance and put it on there, or put it on in the house? Wraps crush the flowers." Youthful etiquette says never carry the box, but wear his flowers. Toss your wrap over your shoulders and protect the flowers, but wear them, . Street Cars or Taxis: "My girl expects me to hire a taxi for every . dance 18s street car is good enough for me and a lot che i What gives?" es. It you're an ambitious young man, and I'd judge you were, your money will do a lot more for you than big taxis. Except for formal dos, street cars are the answer. Mr. Isley rides in one all the time. So can your girl if she really likes you. Office Sweaters: "I have a good figure and like sweaters. But when 1 wear one to the office, 1 feel conspicuous. Should I give them up?" Why don't you wear a smart little suit and a sweater? The combination is attractive and with your jacket on there won't be any comment. Smart business girls draw the line between being at- tractive and being conspicuous. Page the Boss: "I want a raise for I can't manage on what I'm getting. What's the best way to go about it?" Earn it by getting in on time, intelligent work and ambition Take that story to any boss and || you'll get your raise, Each week in this column we | will try to answer the questions you send in, Address all letters to: KATE AITKEN 225 Jarvis Street, Toronto THE EGG AND YOU MARCH GOOD NEWS is packed with Egg Recipes, Eggs scrambled, omelettes, baked and in cakes.
