WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 1947 THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE PAGE NINE Ont. County Fair Marks Eighth Year 'The eighth annual Ontario County Seed Fair is to be held This seed fair is sponsored by the Ontarip County Crop Improve- ment Association whose presi. dent this year is Lloyd Lee, Sea- grave. Each year the Crop Improve- ment Association in Ontario County conducts projects, the aim of which is to demonstrate to the farmers in the county any new developments which have taken place in the methods of crop pro- duction. Some of these projects are as strations; (c) Oat variety tests; (d) Hybrid corn test plots; (e) Long term pasture demonstration plots. To encourage farmers to pro- duce and exhibit good quality grain and small seeds, the associa- tion holds a seed fair where grain is exhibited and offered for sale to other farmers. The first seed fair in Ontario County was held at Brooklin on March 20, 1940, Each year since then a successful fair has been 1944; Brooklin 1945; Port Perry, 1946; Oshawa, 1947. At each seed fair an outstand- ing speaker is present to talk on recent developments in crop im- provement work, This year by combining the Ontario County Fair with the Quinte District Seed Fair and Durhem County Seed Fair, we will be fortunate in having as our speaker, Prof. G. Registered seed growers have been producing registered seed for over forty years. Canada owes a great deal to the registered seed grower because he has provided for the farmer pure seed of our hest varieties, the purity and quality of Canada's farm crops. When you drive into an area where the crops are pure as to variety, clean and uniform, it is a safe bet that there are a number of active registered seed growers in the district. There" are numerous advantages to be obtained from the use of re- gistered seed. Here are a few of the more important reasons for us- ing registered seed: Only the best varieties are used to produce registered seed.
