THE DAILY TIMES-GAZEITE . PAGE NINE SATURDAY, MARCH 29, 1947 The Risen Lord and His Disciples -------------------- SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 1947 By NEWMAN CAMPBELL (The International Uniform Les- on the above topic for April 6 John 19:38-42; 20-21, the Mem- Verse being Luke 24:34, "The Lord is risen indeed.") THE FIRST day of the week, Sunday, Mary Magdalene went to Jesus' tomb early, before it was light. She saw the stone rolled away, and she ran to Simon Peter and John, and told them. They hurried to the sepulchre John outdistancing Peter, and John looked into the tomb, but did not enter. Peter went into the tomb, however, and there he saw the linen clothes in which Jesus had been wrapped lying, and the nap- kin that had been about His head wrapped together in one place by itself, The two disciples went to their own home, but Mary stood without the sepulchre weeping. She stooped down and looked inside and saw "two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain." "Why weepest thou?" they asked, and she answered, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I. know not where they have laid Him." When she said this she look- ed back and Jesus was standing there, but "she knew not that it was Jesu..." ; Jesus sald to her, "Woman, why weepest thou? whom seeketh thou? She, supposing Him to be the gard- ener, saith unto Him, Sir, if thou hast borne Him hence, tell me where thou hast laid Him, and I will take Him away." Jesus said, "Mary," and she recognised Him and cried, "Rabboni; which is to say, Master." Jesus said to her, "Touch Me not; for I am not yet ascended to My Father: but g> to My brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto My Father, and your Father; and to My God, and our God." , Mary Tells of the Resurrection Mary rushed' to the disciples and told them she had s ~n Jesus and the things I'e had told her. The same day, in the evening, at home, with the doors locked be- cause of their enemies, the disciples were assembled, and suddenly Jesus ap] in their midst, saying, "Peace be uato you" Then He showed the His hands with the prints of the nails and His side which had peen wounded by the suldier's spear, and they knew He had risen indeed, and they were Now Thomas was not with them when Jesus came to them, and when he returned he refused to be- lieve that Jesus had been with them. He said, "Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe." After eight days when the dis- ciples were again gathered together, Jesus again appeared to them and He sald to Thomas, "Reach hither thy finger, and behold My hands; and reach hither thy hand, end thrust it into My side: and be not faithless, but believing." answered said Thomas humbly, "My Lord and my God!" i, Jesus sald, "Thomas, because thou has seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed arc they that have not seen, and yet have believed." Thomas must have felt rebuked. Three times Jesus showed Him- self to the disciples, the third time at the sea of Tiberias. Several of the disciples were fishing from a ship, but they caught no fish. Jesus stood upon the shore but they did not know Him. He sald, "Children, have ye any meat?" and they ans- wered No. He sald, "Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find." They did so and the net became so heavy they could hardly drag it in. John said to Simon Peter, "It is the Lord." It Was the Lord "As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread." Jesus said to them, "Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask Him, Who art Thou? knowing it was the Lord." When they had eaten, Jesus said to Peter, 'Peter Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me more than these? He saith, Yea, Lord: Thou knowest that I love Thee. He said, Feed My lambs." Again Jesus asked Peter the same question and being assured he did love Him, He said, "Feed My sheep." Even again Jesus asked the same question, and Peter, feeling a little hurt at the repeti- tion, said, "Lord, Thou knowest all things; Thou knowest that I love Thee," and *he Master answered onc meore, "Feed My sheep." Peter then asked, seeing John, whom Jesus loved, following, "Lord, what shall this man do?" Jesus said, "If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow Me." From this, the saying went abroad among the disciples that John should not die. "And," John tells us, "there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not con- tain the books that should be writ- ten. Amen." Thus John ends his epistle. St. George's Choir Plans "Messiah" For Good Friday For the third consecutive year the choir of St. Georges Anglican Church directed by Cecil A.
