# WHURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1948 THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE J PAGE ELEVEN # Farm Income Is 2. Debate Topic At Farm Forum MRS. BLAKE OKE Corresponde Ebenezer and Courtice, Feb. 10 --The Farm Forum meeting held at the home of Glen and Mrs. Pickell, had under discussion "Is Farm Income Used Efficiently?" It was decided that the farmers should have more modern conveni- ences, but it really was their prob- lem, as some felt that it was be- vond their means. If farm equip- ment was not so costly, it would mean a great deal towards this end. Co-operatively working and buying would also assist in many ways. Health and education were two things which should be made available to all members of the family regardless of debt incurred. Attendance, 16. Refreshments were served at the close and a social time spent together. Services on Sunday were in charge of Rev. F. Yardley. The attendance was not so good, due to road conditions. The choir supplied suitable music. Sunday School ses- sion was as usual. Came Wes at Zion, ' fon,-24 Watch Your Step Friday Is 13th By The Canadian Pres Fearsome Friday the 13th will be here again tomorrow, and every bold citizen who avoids black cats, leaning ladders and three on a match had better arm himself with a - horseshoe or clover.-leaf, knock on wood, or simply stay in ped all day. Safety-conscious employers might onder the latter course (after all, Friday the 13th comes only twice this year--its next occurrence is in August). This method of foiling fate is re. commended by at least one emin. ent psychologist. Some people are So upset by their superstitious dread of Friday the 13th--explains this authority--that they concen. trate deeply on one pet fear with the result thelr alertness to other dangers is diminished. "If you are desperately fearful something is going to happen to you on Friday the 13th, it is well to stay in bed," he concludes. As for the origin of the ill.omen. ed day, it's any goblin's guess. The number 13 was deemed unlucky by astronomers of ancient Babylon and Scandinavian mythologists black- listed it because Balder, their sun. god, had to die when it cropped up in the circle of Valhalla. Most widely accepted version of its origin, however, is the fact there were 13 guests at the Last Supper, including Judas Iscariot who next day--traditionally a Fri. day--betrayed Christ. . The old hoodoo hasn't put in an appearance since last June -- the only Friday the 13th in 1947. No year is complete without at least one day when it behooves the su- perstitious to sleep, eat, walk and talk warily. Six times during the last five years Friday has been dat- ed up with the 13th.
