Most shipping men expect busi- yp n | ness this spring and summer will SA be every bit as good as it was dur- | ing 1947. A Canadian Press survey | showed today, CHUM | bright | 21 | CFRB | The circulation of the blood was | first discovered by Harcey in 1828. Some predict condi- | tions will be even better. The only flaw in a picture is the month-old | strike of Canadian merchant- -ship officers on both coasts. But even | that hasn't developed into a major | difficulty, the survey showed. And the first break in the strike came late last week at Halifax when the Federal Commerce and | Navigation Company signed an agreement with three unions re- presenting deck officers, engineers and radio officers. generally | s Sea Ports | At Halifax, shipping men have + | comnlained from the first that the But, | day night because of the holidays. strike affected port business. because of the substantial number | of non-struck vessels in port, traf- fic has remained brisk. | Montreal shipping men predict {last year's record of 898 arrivals and departures will be matched, if | not surpassed, during the coming | season. Large shipments of Euro- pean-recovery goods are expected to be moved from Montreal. [A big boost in traffic at Churchill, | Man., is anticipated. At Vancouver, the spring-and- | summer outlook is "about average" but several things may improve the | situation. Clifford Carl, director of the Provincial Museum, believes the Pribiloff Islands in the Behring Sea, famed for fur seal herds, have been gar. risoned by the United States for an emergency. First Canadian to visit the islands since the Second Warld War, Dr. Carl said in an interview that he receives frequent radio messages from the governor of the islands. The Pribiloffs are in a strategic position on the great Arctic Circle route from Edmonton to the Orient. The Americans tuilt a large air. field cn the larger island of St. Paul during the war. Currie who will be our Liason Officer in Trenton. : G/C. Bradshaw commended ' the boys on their appearance mention- ing the fact that the Oshawa Chadburn Squadron is one of the top squadron in Ontario. He then proceeded to give them a brief outline of the future plans for Air Cadets. He mentioned trips to Trenton for the Air Cadets, and an item of particular interest was the fact that they are trying to get every cadet into the air sometime this summer. There will be the usual flying course this summer, along with the exchange of cadets between England and Canada, and it is also rumoured that there will.be an exchange be- tween Canada and Australia, and Canada and the United States. G/C. Bradshaw pointed out the advantages Air Cadets have for a career in the Air Force that is not enjoyed by boys who are not Air Cadets. Scholarships are open to Air Cadets both in the Royal Military College at Kingston and at Royal Rhodes in British Co- lumbia." The O.C.S. already has one of its former members in Roy- al Rhodes, Doug Liss, and another member, Stan Kasson, has enter- ed his name for application. After inspection the cadets broke off 'into their respective grqups to attend classes. G/C. Bradshaw visited each class during the evening. There was no parade last Thurs- but the Thursday night previous to that was the compulsory pa- | rade at- the armouries which quite a few of the boys missed. There was a good turn out last Tuesday, and there is no reason why it cannot be as good or bet- ter every week if some of the cadets would just settle down and take an interest in their cadet sraining. Too many of them ex- pect something for nothing. and hten gripe when the other fellow gets the breaks. We have a strength decrease this week in the person of 151-283 Butler David. The Easter Holidays are over and many of us will be glad to return to school for the rest and relaxation it provides. Yours truly will have to get cracking on the history of the squadron he is plan- nig on writing if it is to be out before summer holidays begin. If any of you dear readers have any items on the Oshawa Chadburn Squadron, I would appreciate hear- ing from you. I can be reached anytime after five at 1330R.
