THE DAILY TIMES:GAZETTE PAGE SEVEN SATURDAY, JUNE 5, 1948 WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT Adding Note to Greeting Card? By MRS, CORNELIUS BEECKMAN Dear Mrs. Beeckman: Is it correct to add a message in writing on a greeting card that al- ready has a message printed on it? Helena T. Jertainly! The one to whom you fre sending the greeting card will | ry. cherish a personal message added to the message printed on the card . « » Some longed-for news about the sender and his or her family, or a message of good wishes, or any oth- er message that keeps a friendship "in repair" and flourishing. Some people have a wonderful knack of writing such welcome messages on the greeting cards they send that the whole card then becomes an added link in the golden chain of friéndship. Her Girl Friend Doesn't Know The Right Answers Dear Mrs. Beeckman: My cousin is being married next month (a formal church wedding), and I am to be one of her brides- maids. My girl friend tells me that on the day of the wedding an usher will comeé to my house in a car to escort me to the church, will be my escort during the ceremony and at the reception, and will send me my bouquet. But as yet the bride-to-be has not told me this, and I am wondering if my girls friend is right. Elsie M. Definitely your girl friend is not right. The ushers at a formal church wedding must arrive at the church about an hour before the wedding-hour, to be all ready to seat the guests . . . 50 of course an usher wouldn't have the time to call for you. You will, I am sure be expected to go to the bride's hause and leave for the church from there, with the other attendants + + . this is the customary plan. At the wedding rehearsal you will be directed about the procedure of the processional, the arrangement of the attendants during the cere- mony, and the recessional. And the bride's family or sometimes the bridegroom . . . not an usher . .. supply the flowers you are to car- Small Radios As Gifts From Bridegroom To His Attendants Dear Mrs. Beeckman: I am the prospective bridegroom at a formal wedding, to take place quite soon. I am planning to give my best man and ushers their gloves and ties, as well as, of course, their boutonnieres. As the other gift the "attendants' gift do you think it would be in good taste to give each one one of the new, very small portable radios? They all have the usual gifts, cufflinks, dress sets, and so forth, and I am quite sure these small radios would make a hit, if they wouldn't seem too out- of-line with the traditional pres- ents, What do you think? George H. An excellent idea, sir, and entire- ly correct as gifts to your attend- ants. "Garden Wedding" Should Be Mentioned In Inviting Guests Dear Mrs. Beeckman: My daughter is planning to have her informal wedding in mid-sum- mer in our garden ("weather per- mitted"), and we are giving the in- vitations verbally or by notes. Do you think we should tell the guests that the wedding will be in the garden, if possible, so that they may dress for an afternoon out- doors wedding if they wish to? Mother Yes: you invite the guests, tell them the plan for garden wedding, and add, as you added in paren- theses, "weather permitting."
