Westminister By JAMES McCOOK Canadian Press Staff Writer London --{(CP)-- Hugh Dalton, former Chancellor of the Ex- chequer, once more beams from the government front bench in the House of Commons and tension rises in the historic chamber. For Dalton's return to ministerial office is a fateful event in Labor government history. When he slip- ped last November and gave a re- porter some budget details before reading them to the house, he was finished as chancellor. Some political observers said that Prime Minister Attlee and a num- ber of his colleagues were glad to see Dalton out of the Chancellor's post. His policies had been under criticism and he has no skill in the soft answer that turns away wrath from a government. Labor supporters say that he was returned to ministerial office as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lan- caster because of his ability, popu- larity and long service to the labor movement. : But the independent financial times puts it this way: "The unfortunate Prime Minister could hardly leave out of office for long a man who set himself as Mr. Dalton did to stir up trouble among the Socialist rank and file. "What could be more embarras- ing to Attlee and Morrison( Deputy Premier Herbert Morrison), so anxious to woo the middle class vote, than to have one of their | 8:15--Corinne Jordan 8:30--Can You Top This? 8:30--RCAF Band 3:30--Can You Top This? 8:30--Can.
