Fishermen with their masses of varied equipment piled into boats and headed out onto the lake, mo- thers with their prancing children ambled to shady picnic spots and teen-agers iushed for the diving boards and plunged into the warm waters. Th2 heat was on and the fun was in full swing. People laughed and played, the youngsters .on the swings and teeter-totters, and the adults with organized ball games; pretty girls basked in the sunshine and each tried to outdo the other in getting the best tan of the year. Thomas Asher, park manager, termed the weekend crowd as "gi- gigantic" and claimed the cars were parked in every possible location. Mr. Asher reported the fishing as "extremely good" with boat load after boat load pulling in with full catches. Stewart Collins is reported to have secured the largest catch of the weekend in the form of a 17 pound Muskelunge and a number of hefty bass. The Port Perry Yacht club was out in full force and with a steady wini blowing; lake-going parties tacked and navigated to their hea:l's content. No water facilities were reported during the busy week- end and only a few minor car ac~ cidents occurred. Lions Carnival To Be Gala Event Throngs of amusement seekers are expected to crowd the streets of Port Perry tonight for the annual Lions Carnival being held in the village. James Crane, acting club pres- ident, stated that he anticipates a recoru crowd for the gala event and said that no stone has been left un- turned in making the affair a top- notch success. | Games, amusement booths, con- | tests, prize draws and a street dance | are on the schedule of entertaining | events for the evening and young Brooklin and surrounding districts are expected to gather in the vil- | lage for the -~»nual carnival, Sports of All Sorts By BOB HELM The Port Perry Senior Baseball team suffered a defeat on Monday night going down to the count of 6 to 0 when they played the Cameron team on the winners' home grounds on Monday night. Bill Jenkins, Cameron pitcher, led his team to the 6-0 victory over the Port lads in a loosely played game before a goodly gathering of spec- tators, Nels Reader hurled good ball for Port Perry but was backed up by weak team' support which was no match for the foxy, fast-moving opposition. CLOSE GAME AT MILLBROOK Despite threatening rain a large crowd gathered at Millbrook to wit- ness one of the fastest baseball games of the season, when the Port Perry Juveniles battled it out with Millbrook, final honors going to Millbrook with a 2-2 edge over Port Perry. To the 5th innings Port Perry Juveniles led the way but in the 6th innings the Millbrook team came to the fore to score 3 runs which the visiting team could not top by the close of the game. At the end of the game, 'played at Millbrook, the score book showed 2 runs, 3 hits and 3 errors for Port Perry, and 3 runs, 5 hits, and 2 er- rors for Millbrook. Startled Starlings Doused with Spray London, Ont., July 6--(CP)-- Starlings were subjected to a new type warfare launched by the city ! hall Monday night, and today offi- cials watched with interest the re- sults of their attack. With mobile fog-spraying equip- ment, workers doused trees--and starlings, they hoped--with a five per cent D.D.T. oil solution.
