THURSDAY, JULY 8, 1948 THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE PAGE SEVENTEEN Sees Shipbuilding Well Established Canada Industry Ottawa, July 8--(CP)--Canada's shipbuilding industry is here to ley, John V. Clyne, chairman of le Canadian Maritime Commis- sion, said Tuesday. He told the technical section of the Canadian Ship-Building and Ship Repairing Association try and merchant marine waned after the First World War, both the commission and the Dominion Gov- ernment are taking steps to assure them a good future. The commission, he- declared, "was reasonably assured" that Can- adian ships would be adequately employed for at least another three or four years. Only "the first step" was the commission's recently-announced ship replacement policy. The body now was considering a plan of ac- celerated be ss to make it easier for ship operators to finance the building of vessels in Canadian yards, : Mr, Clyne said the commission was studying the operation of such schemes in other countries, some that | while Canada's shipbuilding indus- |] profits to go towards paying off vessels instead of into taxation. Soon, said Mr, Cline, he hoped the commission would be in a position to discuss the whole de- preciation question with commit- tees representing shipowners and the shipbuilding association. He warned, however, that no government program could succeed unless private enterprise employed its full drive. The government was helping provide funds but it was up to the builders to see the money was spent in Canadian yards. SPRINGS OF THE FEET A widespread misconception about the human foot is that it contains, or is made up, of arches. In spite of this popular belief there is no such thing as an arch in the human foot and doctors point out C.K. CAMERON ELECTRI FOUNDED IN 1913 BY A. C. CAMERON ® Electrical Construction ® Wiring and Repairs ® Range Runs ® Water Heaters that such procedures as putting pads in the shoes to build up the arches are based on an entirely wrong conception of the foot. Medical authorities know that the bone structure of the foot is comparable to springs, rather than arches, and that to function effi- ciently, the springs must be allowed to flatten and recover properly.
