June 17 Harek, a 60- year-old detective - inspector em- ployed in the interior ministry, left his office in respouse to a telephone cal] from a man speaking with a strong foreign accent. He said he would be back short- ly, made appointments for later in the evening, ad left his office. He did not return that evening, nor did he go home. : At 11.30 pm, he telephoned his wife to say that he was delayed but | DISTRIBUTOR WANTED FOR OSH-: uick selling , market and would be home soon. But when she wanted to ask him where hg was the phone was cut off. When he did not return the next morning, inquiries were started adn Austrian Chancellor Figl asked the Russian Commander-in-chief, Col.. Gen. Zheltov, for information, as there were * indications that he might have been carried off by the Russians, Not until] two days after Marek's disappearance did the Russian com- mander-in-chief, informing Chancellor that Marek was under arrest by the Russians on a charge of espionage against the Russian occupation forces and adding that investigations were also being made into similar charges against other high officials of the Interior Minis- try, who would be named later. In the eyes of the Austrian gov- ernment it is a breach of the con- rol agreement, which provides thay he Austrian authorities shall be immediately informed of the arrest of any of their citizens, with full in- formation of the reason and the evidence on which it is based. In addition, it is feared to be the be- ginning of an attack on the Inter- the | WO! jor Ministry which may presage an attempt to destroy the independ- ence of Austria. In the "people's democracies" une der Soviet Russian domination, the Interior Ministry is always a Com- munist, however small the party might be in that country. And it has always been from that ministry that the great "spy trials" have be- gun, trials which weakened and eventually destroyed all other par- ties and finally brought the Com- munist Party into complete control, CLASSIFIED ADS (Continued from Page 12) wJ--Male Help Wanted MAN WANTED--FOR RAWLEIGH BUS- iness.
