It wouldn't take much after that game at the Arena last night. The Marlies almost poked on over the local blueshirts. We were a little stunned ourselves, though the quick and very spirited reversal of form in the last period did keep the red corpuscles moving at their more normal rate. Syl Apps has been working with that club and make no mistake, they will get tougher as the season gets on. Roy McMeekin, their goal- tender was hot stuff in the first twe periods, even if he did fade when the Generals started to click. Give Mr. Armstrong a little while to get fised to the bumps hé will have to take as a "well- known" character, und he will Ie" hard to stop. + L 2 Up front the Dukes have lots of size and savvy. Tommy t "If he is ready for play Saturday night, he'll play." yr Lou Jankowski who was also missing from' the, lineup, having Jos st a piece of himself in a tonsilectomy. The Generals are ncw alone in third place, Barrie having lost to Guelph Bilimores last night. The Gens play the Hatters in Guelph Friday and back here Saturday. Put two ard two together friend and be in your seat this Saturday for A heckey game, : oh of oe 3 3 Get the respirators mother there is more to come. Yes, the hockey fans of this community will get no rest this week. The Gens last night, Bantam and "Merk" hockey tonight. The Gens away game at Guelph tomorrow night and the return engagement with the "Hatters" on Saturday evening here. The hoar frost on one's beard after attending all those ice sessions should really be something to see. No Oshawa isn't mildly hockey mad at this time of the year. We are just completely off our respective rockess. Whoeps! We forgot one series of games which should also be on the list. The Midget and Juvenile sections of the OMHA are hold- ing forth on Saturday morning at the Arena. Having obtained our fur-lined longies and the electrically heated ear-muffs' that shock everyone including us, we should be well protected for the greater part. of this hocky jaunt. v * + That Merk" doubleheader will feature a meeting between GM and UMS Parts or just Parts, and the UAWA. These two clubs to our way of thinking should be just about evenly matched and the battle which will follow their meeting on the frozen liquid should be well worth seeing. The second half of the doubleheader will have the smart, fast and young Pitts' Electric squad facing the bruising bumpers of the United Taxi. Will the Cabbles slow 'em down, or will they mow 'em down? It will have to go one way or the other. Ties exist in the standing between 'the Pitts' and Parts clubs for first place and the other team teams for the cellar. Things may clear up a bit after tonight's matches. y 2 2 * Stan Lawrence and Vic Burr, the two hard working gentlemen of the OMHA wish to inform everyone of the opening "skate" of their bantam pucksters at the Arena this afternoon, The team managers will have lost quite a few of the darker hairs on their brows when they finally have selgcted the good from the not-so-good. Team practices will pyobably get in earnest next week, with a sched- ule creeping into the news about that' time. The Midgets and Juvenile clubs have a pretty good idea at this writing of who is or is not on their teams, and on Saturday morning they will get in a few practice swipes as the clubs move through a practice schedule. The times of these games appears elsewhere on these pages. * L % SPORTS SHORTS--They chose Miss Cheerleader in Toronto yes- terday afternoon at the big game between the City High School Grid Senior and Junior finalists. Gaye Stewart, 'Roy and Jim Con- acher scored for Chicago. The Toronto Marlboros plus their two imports, Roy McMeekin and | George Armstrong, visited Oshawa last night and almost upset the dope | bucket. The locals finally over- | came an early lead built up by the Dukes and came through with a rousing finish to whip them by the score of 5-2. That Number Seven Five and two equal seven, and that is the fourth home game the General have won by that score. The other was a 7-1 victory. The win moved the General into third place alone as the "Barrie Flyers lost a close 3-2 decision to the Guelph Biltmores. The first period of the game last night was one of the shocks of the season to the local fans.
