Cliff Gartshore presented a reso lution which Whitby merchants had endorsed some time ago. Oshawa power is on from five to six so Whitby people who work in Oshawa, and others are doing the bulk of their shopping there with consequently bad effect on local business, the brief stated. "It is suicidal for a housewife to attempt to come downtown after five o'clock," Mr. Gartshore sald. F. J. McIntyre: "I would imagine that something could be done if the factories would agree to work on Saturdays and close some other day of the week." Mr. Gartshore amplified his re- marks on: loss of business saying that in the five to six hour, a large portion of Whitby business was-us- ually done and that customers had been educated for a long time ' to shop at this hour. Now, prefering lighted stores, they go to Oshawa and the result is that Whitby loses business which rightfully belongs here. : Only one other town in this area of Ontario has its power cut from five to six, it was stated.
