Nine Suggestions For Eye Allure Some people are born with beauti- ful eyes. Others must make them s0. And a few simple tricks will do it, says Hazel Rawson Cades in the Woman's Hom: Corupanion. Here's how: Keep your eyes open -- short of staring, of course. The wide- eyed look is a young look. Also desirable., Smile with your eyes as well as your mouth. It's a face-lifter. Get plenty of sleep. Fatizue en- ®ourages dark circles. Wear a bit of eye cream on up- per lids to make eyes look brighter. When your eyes are tired, refresh them with pads soaked with witch hazel. It lashes are skimpy or brittle, us? an eyelash cream or pomade. Encourage an upsweep by training | them back with fingers. Mascara makes lashes look darker and more luxuriant. T°" wever, ap- ply it only to upper lashes. To make eyes look wider and give them an uptilt, use a bit more mas- cara at outer corners. After lashes dry, separate them and remove ex- ces; mascara with a clean damp brush. A tinted makeup base will help camouflage dark circles." Shading rouge well up under the eyes also helps. And a final warning. Don't let your worries show. Scowling can lead to little lines around the eyes. Deportment Includes Well-Controlled Arms ARMS rank high among the troublesome parts of our anatonfy. Experts at assuming ungainly posi- tions, they really excel at awk- wardness when most women are walking. 'Next time you take a stroll, note the position of your arms, If you're dawdling, chances are theyre dangling--limp and heavy-handed --at your sides. If you're hurry- ing, they're likely to be chopping the air in a frantic and useless attempt to propel you along. In order to look well hung to- gether on the street, regard your arms with your conscious mind. Plan what they are to do, rather than leave them to their own de- vices. : A purse is a great help for most women in occupying an arm. If it's an envelope bag, tuck it neatly beneath one arm, making sure your elbow doesn't protrude at a sharp angle from your side. Neither shoulder-strap purses nor bags with gor handles should be allowed to*dangle from your hand as you walk. The effect is likely to be either childish or careless. In order to avoid limp, hanging fingers on your: remaining hand, it's sometimes permissible to carry gloves or a handkerchief. If there seems to be no logical reason for carrying a small object, crook your elbow slightly and half-close your hand. © . "Nv Fashion Flashes ALREADY, under fur coats, women are wearing handsome dress and jacket prints. Black pin- dots on a beige or shocking pink silk surah ground is the color scheme for a slim dress made with halter-top cuffed bodice. With it a slim, matching jacket with a scarf collar that criss-crosses and fastens with rhinestone buttons. * * + THE SAILOR WINS acceptance from the majority of store buyers, judging by orders placed, for Spring millinery. A smart suit sailor is of petit purl straw with pearl-edged velvet loops trimming the simple grosgrain band and tab. * * * AND NOW it's the chignon that is the big 'hair-do furor. So, of course, there are beautiful orna- ments to add sparkle to the hair. One is a huge butterfly of tiny brilliants and filagree, ideally suited to the chignon for evening wear. +* + +* A GROWING DEMAND is indi- cated for the ensemble suit. Good for Spring or for travel is a four- plece affair of brown and .white checked tweed, consisting of a boxy topper, classic collarless jacket, slim skirt and wide, fringed scarf stole. * + + NOVELTY fur pieces are mach- ing out of the stores in fine shape. Inexpensive and smart is a choker made of mink tails and trimmed with a velvet bow and flower. Some girls wear the choker as a pillbox hat, with the trim at the side or back. * + * ONE WAY to cheer up is to buy a hat, the other is to wear a red dress--even if one has never worn the color before. It really does things! Cherry-red silk rep makes a handsome socktail frock. It has a wide neckline that is heavily em- broidered with jet beads, and has jet fringe at the shoulders. The skirt has an overskirt effect with a slim, side-jut treatment. * +b THE EMPHASIS is on fabric in- terest for the coming season. A fine resort number is of tissue-weight crinkled cotton, washable and inde- pendent of the iron. Charming in a tiny violet and white print for a sunback dress with fitted jacket. i A WEALTH of beautiful costume jewelry lends sparkle to the Win- ter scene. Rhinestones are used for a square neckline with lavish matching sprays at the corners. + + JUST NOW the shops are show- ing some beautiful fabric-trimmed felts. A rippled bicorne, in coffee cream fur felt, has its brim faced in matching satin and has a sheer veil with an em» ~'">red border. +» + SOUTHBOUND lu,.age includes some mighty pretty swim and beach | clothes, judging by store sales. A | smart twosome consists of a one- piece green jersey bathing suit en- tirely covered with white fishnet land a full-length loose coat of white fishnet. * + @ LEAVE ROOM for uae chignon is t: 2 edict to millinery designers, and so every collection includes many hats cut away at the back. One such model is of fluted black straw, the bonnet brim faced with white faille. The back, cut away to make room for a chignon, is massed with flowers. Cross your heart, hope to die, answer truly. Consider the demon housewife who dusts her furniture every day | of her life and doesn't realize that the top of her head catches as much | dust as the top of a table. The way for her to dust her hirsute mop is to use the brush vigorously and! frequently. | The Wave Set We hear the sam. old alibi, eh? You know what it is. 'whe brush will weaken the wave set. Nothing to it. Wave lines are supposed to be wide and fluid these days, the wider the better, the more natural, the effect. Even so, if you don't take care of your hair you won't| have much to wave in course of | time. Unless the shampoo is thorough, it will do more harm than good. Every particle of soap or cream must be removed. A hair dresser can tell by the "feel" of the shafts if they are clean. The least bit of stickiness shows that the rinsing has been casual. Thorough Rinsing When using the spray--you can't have a thorough rinsing without one--send the water all along the hair line, front, back and sides. These areas are often overlooked, the usual practice being to con- centrate.on the crown of the head. Keep lifting your tresses as the water flows through them. Don't fancy that a single soaping, no matter how well rubbed into the scalp, will do the business. You are dealing with a combination of at- mspheric dust, exudation: from the sweat and sebaceous glands, and a certain amount of 'skin debris. That makes a combination that is not easily dislodged. rd Hollywood Highlights By BOB THOMAS Hollywood (AP) -- The two hot- test names in the movie business today are Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. I braved a lunch with them to find out why. I do mean braved. It is well known that the two zanies will do anything for a laugh. I wasn't surprised when they retied my bow tie, stole sips of my tomato juice and handed out a variety of in- sults. Their boss, producer Hal Wallis, seemed fairly tolerant as Jerry called him "Mr. Wayliss" and gave him a mock shave with a table knife. I'm not sure whether Para- gets at least half the laughs. Some- times in night clubs we switch the act entirely and he does my lines and I do his." Dean arrived and offered a sim- ilar explanation for the film's suc- cess, adding: "There are other rea- sons why the picture has done so well, It's topical, and it has the funniest man in the world -- Jerry Lewis." His remarks carried out what Jerry and I had been discussing earlier, I mentioned that every film team had broken up at some time or other. "Not this one," Jerry replied, "We respect each other too well. For my part, Dean is one of the finest guys I've ever met." Want te buy, sell or trade? -- A classified ad and the deal is made, mount boss Y. Frank Fr n was amused when Jerry asked, "Are you going to wash my car?" or when he said to Freeman, "How come you never talked to me before about 'war with the army'?" The latter film is what has made Martin and Lewis hotter than an arc lamp. A comic trifle turned out for $355,000, it is expected to bring in more than $4,000,000. Many ob- servers have offered explanations for this phencmenon and so I asked the boys for theirs. "I think it boils down to one thing--people want to laugh," an- swered Jerry, the skinny, crew-cut member of the team. Someone else offered an explana- tion given by a veteran movie man: "This. is something unique in movie teams. You not only have a comic who is funny and has a boy- ish quality, but you also have a straight man who can sing and has a romantic appeal." This was before Dean arrived for lunch and Jerry had some glowing words for his partner. "Dean is more than a straight man," he said. "He also has a great sense of com- edy. In some of our routines, he '} BIG $1.00 SHOE SALE * ---at -- 15 Simcoe St. N. in its most delicious form, <tish, wafers. es thin And Vita-Weat inclu the Wheat Germ PEEK FREAN'S VITA-WEAT WHOLE WHEAT CRISPBREAD IS LOW IN CALORIES The Experts Say 'BY KAY REX Canadian Press Staff Writer .
