The way the Gens have been going lately, however, their 8-0 de- feat by the league-leading Toronto Marlboros likely will. be just a slight stall. Though the Dukes well deserved to win, the play belied the eight-goal margin. The first game was still a con- | test entering the third period, but the Dukes blew it apart with five goals within a space of five min- utes and 47 seconds. Parker MacDonald scored three goals and picked up an assist and his goals were three of the. most important -- the first, third and | fourth. His first two were unassist- | ed, blazing shots from the left side, the first beating a harried Ken Woods waist-high, the second at about ankle level. His third finished off a fine passing play with Tommy McCarthy, who laid the puck on the doorstep, Mac- Donald slamming it in while in full flight. A goal by Wally Maxwell sent the Dukes ahead,' 2-0, in the first period and the route was complet- ed on single goals by rookie de- fenseman Bobby Baun, Johnny Macdonald, Charlie Burns and Gerry James. The Marlboro defense gave one | of its sharpest performances. Big sometimes awkward, George Stoy- an, came up with a most effective tersley, Casey, Etcher, Mader. Montreal Ronty, New York Generals Edge Out St. Mikes In Thrill-Packed Saturday Game Over 2,200 hockey fans turned out on Saturday night to see the steam - rollering Oshawa Generals notch their fifth successive win. The sixth - place Generals rode it roughshod over the feared St. Mich- ael's College Majors and downed the Toronto team 6-5. Checking hard and playing fast, the Generals had the edge from the .first whistle but the score was tied up at the end of the first two periods. The decider came when the third period was five minutes old and Goalie Kenny Woods and the defence held out against every- thing the tired St. Mike's could throw at them. Edging his way towards the top|: spot in the league scoring table, |' forward Bob Attersley was the boy the fans had their eyes on. The crowd went wild when A tersley drove in the first goal of 1 the evening at the 11.35 mark. It |g was the first of three points he picked up during. the game to put his scoring total at 72. Oshawa's first goal came within a minute of Lee, of St. Mike's, be- ing sent off the ice for slashing and was a combined effort of Etch- er, Appleby and Attersley. Pressing hard St. Mike's equalized when there was only a little more than three minutes left in the period. Ratchford got the goal and 20 sec- onds later got the gate for trip- ping. ON INJURE DLIST . McNamara was substituting in goal for Chadwick, of St. Mike's, who is on the injured list, and the visitors were also obviously missing their ace, Costello, who i$ out with | a broken nose. Taking over the game, Oshawa | smashed in two goals in the open- ing minutes of the second period. Bill Stewart drive right in on the | goal, taking teammate Stan Parker | with. him, and backhanded one which gave McNamara no chance. Sixteen seconds later the trio of Hillman, Attersley and Collins mov- ed in and Oshawa was leading 3-1. A holding penalty meted out to Hillman was expensive for the Gen- erals when Dineen, who was the | Jmost dangerous man on the ice for ! Bt. Mike's, scored against the Osh- | but the Generals' ragging tactics | AN PARKER paid off and the score went to 4-2 awa five men. Hillman got an iden- tical penalty seven minutes later when Attersley, right in front of goal, took his time before letting an unstoppable drive fly. "Bi D be =. S The cleanest game play between the two hot rival teams this sea- son was marred only by one bare- fist fight in the second period when Ed Plata and Bob Appleby took off at each other. They both earn- ed and got -- seven minute penalties. Visibly tired, the Gen- erals couldn't hold up for the last minutes of the second and Caffrey and Dineen put it at 4-4. A slip by Rick Collins and a high bouncing puck combined with a bad defence lapse cost Oshawa their lead. EARNS A STAR Stan Parker earned his "star" of the night when he tore in from the blue line and smashed the puck past McNamara only 37 sec- onds after the third period opened. Ratchford scored his second of the night four minutes later but Parker came back on the rampage within 20 seconds to pot the winning goal. TRIP LINDSAY 8-4 Oshawa Schoolboy Rink Wins | Ontario 'Spiel And Trip West | On Saturday, before a crowd of some 400 spectators, largest crowd ever to witness a curling match in | Oshawa, Bobby Walker skinned the hometown rink to a 8-4 victory over the Lindsay schoolboys, last year's Ontario champions, with Jack Mos- ley at the helm. The Oshawa lads, George Mac- Gregor, lead, Clare Peacock, sec- ond, Duncan Brodie, vice-skip and | Walker himself turned in a final game that was next thing to flaw- less. Each played his position with the assurance of a veteran and with the Lindsay boys showing a game that was "almost'" as gcod, the fans saw as nice a game as will be played in any rink. Lindsay opened the scoring in the first end with a one count. Osh- |ava came baci: wih a three on the : end and added a singleton for the next three, In the sixth, Lindsay took another one and the last four engs were all singles, with two going Oshawa and tWo to Lindsay. It was a tightly played game all the way as the final score of 8 to 4 clearly indicates. : The Oshawa lads will fly to 'Sas- katoon next month to compete in the Canadian Schoolboy Champion- . | ships. Expenses of this trip are as- | sumed by the Empire Life Assur- lead, George MacGregor; vice, Dunc. Brodie; skip, Bob Walker, and second, Claire Peacock. SECOND PERIOD 3.
