"W believe that the British today would welcome the chss alongside her husband," the ewspaper declares. It lescribes the Duke as a de- vote patriot who had suffered muc at the death of his mother, Quen Mary, last week and adds "heias much to give" in the way of frther service to his country. "1 would be very happy if the Coronation could be made the oc- casion of bringing him and his wife home again. It would also be a national reconciliation, an amnesty for those of us who felt it was right to support him all those long years ago." The News Chronicle adds "a statement in the Sunday press that court circles are reconsidering hard whether the Duke of Windsor should be asked to his niece's Cor- priation prompts us to hope it will e 80." Last Thursday, Lord Beaver- brook's Daily Express said Queen Mary's death is the cue for the self-exiled Duke of Windsor to come home, presumably bringing the Duchess with him. The suggestion touched off a bit- ter editorial controversy. The in- dependent tabloid Sunday Pictorial said Sunday "the blunt truth is that im this country there is no further opportuniy in public life for the Duke. He must stick to the choice he made 16 years ago. . The Conservative Sunday Gra- phic deplored what it called "'ig- norant speculations" and 'loose tongue" about the Duke and said he should be left alone "to live his on life." Floats Through Air With Blast Pictures EWIS, Ind. (CP)"I squatted agm to take a picture, and as I did started to float in space. . ." Jis was the experience of Jack Wiisey, a Terre Haute Tribune phwographer who was in Lewis on anéher assignment when ammun- itia-loaded cars of a freight train ble. up Sunday.- Wmsey took the first photo- grohs of the explosion from the midle of an open field not far fra the. explosion. *; squatted down in the field to tal a good shot," he said. "This "wa the beginning of the night- a mee. It blew! "rom this point everything hap- ped' at once, but I thought to myelf that if the thing is going to 'et me, I'm going to get some god shots. Then the house was flat- ted completely. 'Yhile this hissing ball of fire through the air, I was of another shot. I squatted to take a picture, and as I started to float in space. I didn't know then that later I would have to drive through these same missiles of fire to es- cape the Lewis holocaust, "The field surrounding me was now on fire. There was only one way out--through it. "I ran for my car parked on the road. I found the roof caved in and the windows broken. But I still had to get out. '"The only way out was to back up, for flames were ahead of me. I backed out of Lewis through the Soutous shower of fiery mis- siles." (CP)-- Saskatchewan's most northerly resident doctor, Dr. Phillips E. Lavoie, retires April 1 and the Crees and Chipewyans who live in the northern wilderness will miss his friendly greetings at treaty time this summer. For the last 18 years, whenever the Indians have gathered to visit, trade and make treaty, Dr. Lavoie has been on hand to treat ailments, pull aching teeth and administer pills, After practising at Montmarte and Prelate, Dr. Lavoie took charge of a small, run-down gov- ernment hospital at Lac Ile a La Crosse in 1934. In the seven years previous to his arrival four differ- ent doctors had come and gone. In his first year, Dr. Lavoie treated 168 patients. Last year, 975 patients received the van- tage of modern medical treatment in St. Joseph's Hospital, operated by the Roman Catholic mission. The canoe and dog sled were the doctor's first mode of transporta- tion to some lonely trapper's cabin where medical skill under the most trying conditions was often taken for granted. They travel now, in the north, by snow bug, speed boat and plane. Dr. Lavoie was born in 1886 in Rimouski, Quebec. He received his medical degree from Laval Uni- versity in 1913. Two years later he married Marie de Lourde Pac- quette. Their only daughter, Mrs, Cecile Churnside, resides in Ot- tawa. Of their three sons, Ger- maine is attending university at Saskatoon, and Rene and Emile operate a mink ranch at Fort Black. An adopted son, Roderigue, is still at home.
