Her fiance is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Wile) Armitage of Simcoe, On- rio. Chief Friend Talks To Harmony Parents At H. &S. Meeting The guest speaker at the regu- lar meeting of Harmony Home and School Association on Monday eve- ning was Police Chief Owen D. Friend. During his interesting talk, Chief Friend gave a history of the police force and his illustrations were enlightening. He said parents should never frighten' children of police and they should obey traf- fic regulations especially when children are with them. In the principal's report, Mr. Arthur Korry mentioned the regis- tration of the children who will be six years old by October 31, to take place April 16 and 17 in the school, and also the Music Festival to be held in the Arena May 7, to which ; |all are invited. Mr, Maycock's class won the room prize and also the Home and School shield for the best attend- ance during the month of March. Interesting reports from the con- vention held in Toronto during Easter week were given by Mrs. G. Terry, Mrs. Stephen Harken, and Mrs. Orville Souch. Miss Carol Cook entertained the members with two humorous reci- tations and Miss Eleanor Wotton played 'Beautiful Dreamer' on the piano which was enjoyed. The meeting was adjourned and lunch was served by Mrs. Albert Rundle and committee. - Harrogate in Yorkshire, Eng- land, has been famous for its min- eral springs since 1571. Burke-Edwards Nuptial Rites Held in Calvary Baptist Church Pink 'snapdragons, mauve stocks and daffodills in white baskets, the ws designated with white moire ws, formed the setting in Cal- vary Baptist Church for a wed- ding on Saturday afternoon when June Virginia Edwards, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Edwards of Oshawa, was united in marriage with Douglas David Burke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Huber Burke of Omemee. The Reverend R, W. Wighton, FRGS, performed the ceremony. Miss Ruth Skinner played the wed- ding music and Mr. Vernon Wright sang "Thou Art My Own reced- ing the ceremony and "'O Perfect Love" during the signing of the register. Given in marriage by her father the bride wore a gown of carna- tion white Chantilly lace and net| over satin. The fitted bodice was fashioned with a high round neck- line accented with arls and inset with a yoke of delicate sheer giv- ing an off-the-shoulder effect. The long sheath sleeves were pointed over the hand. Hip length panels of the lace outlined with Swiss medallions were inset in the billow- ing floor length skirt of net. A halo of shirred net held her double- tiered finger-tip veil of tulle il- lusion bordered with a lily of the valley motif, and she carried a cascade of red roses with white satin ribbon ties. . Miss Joyce Logerman was maid of honor wearing periwinkle blue. Her flowers were a cascade of yel- low roses with orchid tulle florets and tied with yellow satin ribbon. The bridesmaids were Miss Cath- erine Power of Orono in carnation pink, Miss Grace Toazein Wind- sor rose and Miss Barbara Dugan in American Beauty rose,'all car- rying cascades of roses in shades of pink with matching satin ribbon ties. The gowns worn by all the at- tendants were designed on identical lines of corded taffeta. The slim bodices were buttoned up the front to the high, round necklines which were highlighted with lily point collars. Their billowing skirts worn over a crinoline were floor length. They wore wide-bhimmed, open- crowned, matching hats with long velvet streamers at the back and long shirred mittens. Mr. Gordon Burke of Ridgetown was best man for his brother, The ushers were Mr. Ralph Burke and Mr. Robert Burke of Reaboro, brothers of the bride, and Mr, Don- ald Scriver of Port Perry. The reception was held in the Sunday School rooms. To receive the guests the bride's mother wore 'a street length dress of mist grey silk rajah, a small pink hat of straw with veiling and pink ac- cessories. The bridegroom's moth- er who assisted chose an afternoon dress of Queen's blue crepe inset with lace, a matching straw trim- med with pink lilac and matching accessories. They both wore cor- sages of roses. Baskets of spring flowers and the bouquets of the bride and her at- tendants formed an effective back- ground for the table for the bridal party, which was centered with a three-tiered pedestal wedding cake, in a setting of pink tulle and flank- ed on either side wth lighted pink tapers in crystal holders, and ar- rangements of sweet peas. Pink sweet peas in crystal vases also decorated the tables for the guests. Mr. Wighton said grace and later proposed a toast to the bridal cou- ple. Following the reception the guests were entertained at -the home of the bride's parents, Bagot Street. . The newly wedded couple left in the early evening for their honey- moon, which will be spent in the United States. For travelling the bride wore a grey English worsted suit, a blue top coat, red straw hat and matching accessories. White carnations comprised her corsage. Before leaving the bride threw her bridal bouquet which was caught by Miss Barbara Dugan.
